Updated 18 October 2026

Kajiado County has 25 wards spread across five constituencies, which are also its five sub-counties: Kajiado North, Kajiado Central, Kajiado East, Kajiado West and Kajiado South. Each constituency has exactly five wards, and each ward elects one Member of County Assembly (MCA). The list below follows the county government’s third County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP 2023 to 2027), with population and area figures from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) 2019 census as reported in the same plan.

All 25 Wards in Kajiado County by Constituency

The contrast is striking. Kajiado North covers just 111 square kilometres, about half of one per cent of the county, yet it holds more than a quarter of the people, because Ngong and Ongata Rongai have grown into Nairobi’s suburbs. Kajiado West is the largest constituency at 7,862 square kilometres but one of the least populated.

A Closer Look at Each Constituency

Kajiado North

The county’s most crowded constituency borders Nairobi. Its wards cover the towns of Ngong, Ongata Rongai and the fast-growing areas of Olkeri and Nkaimurunya. The CIDP names Rongai and Ngong, along with Kitengela, as the county’s most densely occupied urban areas. Ngong municipality covers all of Kajiado North and part of Keekonyokie ward in Kajiado West.

Kajiado East

Home to Kitengela, the county’s other big commuter town. Kitengela municipality covers Kaputiei North and Oloosirkon/Sholinke wards, and the constituency has the second-largest population in the county.

Kajiado Central

Includes Kajiado town, the county headquarters. Kajiado municipality covers parts of Dalalekutuk and Ildamat wards. It has the most villages of any constituency, 40, but the smallest population.

Kajiado West

The largest constituency by area runs from Keekonyokie, part of which falls under Ngong municipality, out to Magadi ward, home to Lake Magadi. It has the most villages of any constituency after Kajiado Central.

Kajiado South

The southern constituency borders Tanzania and includes the Amboseli area, with Loitokitok as its main town. It covers 6,337 square kilometres but has only 19 villages under its five wards.

How Wards Work

A ward is the smallest electoral unit in Kenya. Voters in each ward elect an MCA, who sits in the Kajiado County Assembly to represent the ward, pass county laws and oversee the county executive. You can see what MCAs earn in our guide to MCA salaries in Kenya. Each ward is also an administrative unit, with a ward administrator who coordinates county services such as bursaries and projects. The CIDP counts 135 villages under the wards.

Ward boundaries are set by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). To find your ward, check your voter registration details with the IEBC or look at the polling station where you vote.
