Updated 24 October 2026

Family Bank’s current tariff guide took effect in January 2026, and it is the document the bank points customers to when they ask what a transaction will cost. The figures below are taken from that guide as published on the bank’s website. All amounts are in Kenya shillings unless stated, and the bank notes that every fee is subject to withholding tax and other applicable taxes, and that the guide can change. If a charge matters for a big transaction, confirm it at a branch or on the bank’s customer care lines before you pay.

The guide is long, so this page groups the charges people ask about most: mobile banking on PesaPap, PesaLink, agent and ATM withdrawals, transfers, cheques, cards and the opening balances for each account.

In this guide
  1. PesaPap mobile banking charges
  2. Bank to mobile money charges
  3. PesaLink transfer charges

  5. ATM and debit card charges
  6. Credit card fees

Credit card fees

The joining fee on the Classic and Gold credit cards is waived. The annual fee is KSh 3,000 for Classic and KSh 4,000 for Gold. A cash advance costs 6.5 percent of the amount, with a minimum of KSh 200, and interest is charged at 3.5 percent a month. The minimum monthly payment is 20 percent of the outstanding balance. A late payment attracts 6 percent (minimum KSh 200), going over the limit costs 4 percent of the excess (minimum KSh 1,500), and a replacement card is KSh 1,000.

Transfers, RTGS and SWIFT

Transfer type Charge
Internal transfer (branch) KSh 50
Inward EFT KSh 100
Outward EFT KSh 150 per item for 1 to 100 items, KSh 100 for 101 to 1,000, KSh 50 above 1,000

Doing the same transfers on internet banking or FamilyPay is cheaper in some cases: set up is free, an internal transfer is KSh 30, an EFT is KSh 100, RTGS is KSh 400 and a SWIFT transfer is KSh 1,500.

Standing orders cost KSh 250 to set up, then KSh 100 per internal payment and KSh 300 per external one. An unpaid standing order costs KSh 2,500, and an unpaid direct debit KSh 300.

Cheque charges

Local cheque leaves cost KSh 14 each, and a counter cheque is KSh 300 a leaf. Stopping a cheque costs KSh 500 and a banker’s cheque is KSh 100. The expensive part is a bounced cheque: if Family Bank returns your cheque for insufficient funds the charge is KSh 2,500, and the same applies when effects have not cleared. A cheque returned by another bank costs KSh 500.

An interim statement is KSh 100 a page, a certified statement KSh 500 a page and a statement for a closed account KSh 2,000. A bank opinion letter is KSh 1,500, an audit confirmation letter KSh 500, and safe custody of documents is KSh 600 every six months. Dormant accounts are not charged, and reactivating one is free.
