Fuliza Biashara gives M-Pesa Business Till owners an overdraft that covers payments when the till balance is short. Opting in takes a few minutes on your phone, as long as your till meets the activity requirement. This guide walks through the requirements, the steps to opt in, how to check your limit and how to keep costs under control once you start using it.
Requirements
- An active M-Pesa Business Till.
- At least six months of business activity on the till.
- Access to the Safaricom line linked to the till.
- A good record of business activity. Limits are set based on how the till is used.
Step by Step: Opting In
- Dial *234# from the line linked to your Business Till.
- Select M-Pesa Business Till.
- Choose Business Loans, then Fuliza Biashara.
- Read and accept the terms and conditions.
- Follow the prompts to complete opt in.
- You receive an SMS confirming activation and your limit.
Only the line linked to the till can opt in, so make sure the owner or authorised person controls that line.
Checking Your Limit and Balance
Use the same Fuliza Biashara menu on *234# to check your limit and any amount outstanding. Check regularly so you know how much is available and how much you owe before making large payments.
What It Costs
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Who qualifies | Business Tills with at least six months of activity |
| Fee per draw | 2% of the amount drawn |
| Daily maintenance fee | KSh 12 to KSh 250 depending on the amount outstanding |
| Repayment | Automatic from incoming till collections |
Each draw costs 2%, and a daily fee runs on the outstanding amount for as long as it remains unpaid. The fastest way to save money is to repay quickly.
How Repayment Works
Incoming collections to your till go first towards clearing your Fuliza Biashara balance. You can also deposit money into the till to clear it faster. Until it is cleared, the daily fee keeps running.

When to Use It
- Paying a supplier who offers a good deal today, when your sales will come in tomorrow.
- Covering a utility or rent payment due a day before a big sales day.
- Handling an urgent repair that keeps the business running.
When Not to Use It
- For long term needs such as expansion or equipment, where a fixed term business loan is usually cheaper.
- For personal spending, which should stay off the business till.
- Repeatedly every week, which suggests a cash flow problem that credit alone will not fix.
Compare Before You Borrow
For a known amount over a set period, such as stock for a week, a Taasi Till Loan gives a fixed fee and may be more predictable. Our Taasi guides on Business Radar explain costs. For very small traders without a till, Pochi Fuliza is available on Pochi la Biashara.
A Simple Rule for Healthy Use
Before each draw, ask yourself when the money to repay it will arrive. If the answer is within a day or two from normal sales, the overdraft is doing its job. If you do not know, or the answer is next month, choose a different option or rethink the payment. Writing down each draw and the date it was cleared helps you see patterns, such as needing credit before every weekend, which you can solve by keeping a small cash buffer in the till. Many businesses aim to build a buffer equal to a few days of typical supplier payments, so the overdraft becomes a backup rather than a habit.
Keeping Business Debt Separate
Avoid paying business bills with personal Fuliza or personal loans. When business debt sits on your personal wallet, it becomes hard to tell whether the business is profitable, and your personal credit record carries business risk. Fuliza Biashara keeps the debt on the till, where it belongs.
Opting Out
If you decide you no longer want the facility, clear any balance and use the Fuliza Biashara menu on *234# or contact Safaricom business care to opt out.
