Nakuru’s SHA Facilities in Numbers
Most of Nakuru’s network is public: 213 facilities are run by the county government, 157 are private and 24 are faith-based. Dispensaries and clinics dominate, with 248 Level 2 facilities, followed by 120 Level 3 health centres and clinics, 42 Level 4 hospitals and specialist clinics, and 2 Level 5 hospitals.
The Main Referral Hospitals
- Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital, Nakuru in Nakuru West, the county’s main public referral hospital, listed with 800 beds.
- The Nakuru Specialist Hospital, a private Level 5 hospital listed for cancer and infectious disease care.
Below these, the 42 Level 4 facilities include sub-county hospitals and private and mission hospitals spread across the county. Choose “Hospitals” in the type filter to list them.
SHA Facilities by Sub-County
Naivasha has the most with 71, followed by Nakuru (60), Gilgil (45), Rongai (38), Njoro (36), Kuresoi (32), Nakuru West (31), Molo (27), Kuresoi North (27), Nakuru North (25) and Subukia (20). If you live in Nakuru town, check the Nakuru, Nakuru West and Nakuru North filters, as town facilities are split across them.
Specialist Services
The list includes 14 nursing homes and cottage hospitals, 4 specialist medical or dental clinics, 3 eye clinics, 3 dental clinics, 2 maternity homes, 2 stand-alone dialysis centres and a mental health centre. The referral hospitals offer more specialist services than these counts suggest, so ask them directly.
