Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) is courting more than 200 investors and 40 financing institutions for its third Sustainable Energy Conference, which it will host at Olkaria in Naivasha from November 24 to 27.
The power producer says the meeting is expected to draw more than 1,500 participants from over 80 countries. It is also targeting 100 utilities and power producers and 100 exhibitors.
The conference was launched in Nairobi on Thursday under the theme “Powering Africa’s Green Industrial Revolution”.
From talks to deals
KenGen acting managing director and CEO Kibet Ronoh said the event is meant to close the gap between identifying energy projects and getting them financed.
“SEC 2026 is designed to move the green energy investment conversation from opportunity to execution,” he said at the launch.
“Our ambition is to move from dialogue to deals, from commitments to capital, and from potential to projects,” Ronoh added, according to Capital FM.
“We have invited investors, financiers, utilities, project developers and corporates to join us on this journey, and we are confident the conference will unlock meaningful opportunities that accelerate Africa’s clean energy agenda,” he said.
He said the agenda will cover investment mobilisation, project development, strategic partnerships and carbon trading. Ronoh also noted that about 600 million people in Africa still lack access to electricity.
Geothermal at the centre
KenGen has an installed generation capacity of 1,786 megawatts, about 90 percent of it from renewable sources, mainly geothermal, hydro and wind.
The company is developing the KenGen Green Energy Park at Olkaria, which is intended to use geothermal power to support manufacturing and other industrial activity. Holding the conference at the Olkaria Geothermal Spa places delegates next to that resource.
The Star reported that KenGen is staging the event with Stanbic Bank, Radio Africa Group and Kyote Network.
“Effective communication is a vital link between investors, project developers and energy consumers. Radio Africa Group commits to deploy its services cutting across Radio, print media, digital and events as the world gathers in Olkaria for SEC,” Radio Africa Group CEO Martin Kafafa said.
Tickets and registration
Tickets listed on the Ticketyetu platform cost Sh50,000 for delegates and Sh5,000 for students, payable by M-Pesa or card.
The conference comes as Kenya’s electricity and water supply sector grew 7.7 percent in the second quarter, among the fastest of any sector, according to the latest KNBS economic data.
