“Why did my units drop?” is the second big token question. Kenya Power’s replies point to three causes.

Based on questions customers sent to Kenya Power’s official customer-care X account (@KenyaPower_Care) and Kenya Power’s own replies, checked on 14 October 2026. Questions are paraphrased.

1. Your tariff band changed

Kenya Power says your domestic tariff is set automatically from your average monthly consumption over three months, and higher usage attracts a higher tariff – so two neighbours paying the same amount can get different units.

Note: Kenya Power’s own replies describe the bands differently. One reply listed DC1 (up to 30 units), DC2 (31–100) and DC3 (above 100); another described “Domestic lifeline” (under 100 units a month) and “Domestic ordinary” (over 100). We have not found a single official statement reconciling these, so check the current EPRA tariff schedule or ask Kenya Power for your meter’s band.

2. Last Mile connection loan

Meters connected under the Last Mile Connectivity programme carry a loan that Kenya Power recovers at 50% of every token purchase until it is cleared.

3. Rebilling adjustment debt

Some meters carry a “rebilling adjustment debt”; in one case Kenya Power said it was being recovered at 30% of every token purchase.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I get fewer units than my neighbour for the same amount?

Kenya Power says tariffs depend on your average consumption over the past three months; higher users pay a higher rate.

How much does Last Mile deduct?

50% of every token purchase until the Last Mile loan is repaid, per Kenya Power.

How do I know my debt or tariff band?

Share your meter number with Kenya Power (X, 97771 or *977#); it checks and replies.
