Tembo’s History

Tembo was registered in 1972 to serve employees of East African Breweries, and it later opened membership to the public. Today it is a mid-sized Sacco headquartered at Tembo Sacco Plaza on Garden Estate Road, Nairobi.

Size and Recent Results

SASRA’s 2025 supervision report lists Tembo with total assets of about KSh 7.77 billion, member deposits of KSh 5.06 billion, gross loans of KSh 4.85 billion and revenue of about KSh 960 million. It is much smaller than giants such as Mwalimu National or Stima.

One thing members should know: at its 2025 AGM, Tembo disclosed a KSh 115.83 million impairment on money it had placed with KUSCCO, the co-operative union at the centre of a KSh 13 billion scandal, and SASRA advised writing it off in full. Even so, it kept the 20% dividend for 2025.
