Updated 18 October 2026

This guide covers the practical side of joining Kenya Coast National Polytechnic (KCNP) in Mombasa: the student portal, what you will pay, government funding, how to apply and who to call. The figures come from the polytechnic’s official website and its September 2025 course brochure. For the full list of courses by department, see our KCNP courses guide.

The KCNP Student Portal

The student portal is at portal.kenyacoastpoly.ac.ke. You can also reach it from the “Portal” menu on kenyacoastpoly.ac.ke, which links to both the Students Portal and the Staff Portal. The portal opens on a login page. If you do not have an account yet, look for the sign-up link on that page, or ask the Registrar’s office for your login details. Have your admission or student number ready, because the polytechnic uses it to identify you.

What the portal is for

The portal is the polytechnic’s online self-service system for students. Students use it to handle records such as personal details, fee statements, unit registration and results. Ask the Registrar which services are open for your class, because some may only be available at certain times of the term.

If you cannot log in, or the portal shows the wrong details, contact the Registrar’s office through the numbers below rather than creating a second account. When we tried to open the portal while writing this guide, it did not load, so if it times out, try again later.

KCNP Fees

The September 2025 brochure lists the term 1 fee for each course. Typical amounts by level:

Course type Typical term 1 fee
Level 6 diplomas and most Level 5 certificates KSh 41,200
Some Level 5 courses (Child Protection, Health Care Support, Information Assistant) KSh 35,737
Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology KSh 36,097
Level 4 artisan courses KSh 31,400
Level 3 trade courses KSh 20,200 to KSh 26,750
KASNEB (ATD, CPA, CAMS) KSh 20,715
Languages (German, French, Chinese) KSh 20,200
Basic STCW and STCW Revalidation KSh 15,000
Driving (B1, B2) KSh 15,650

The fee structure page on the polytechnic website also has separate documents for driving, ICDL, STCW, medical sciences, computer applications and CCNA, languages, modular courses, and programmes run with Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology. Download the latest version before paying, because term 2 and term 3 fees are listed there and fees change from year to year.

Hostel

The brochure says limited hostel places are available for female students only, at KSh 8,000 per term plus KSh 1,000 caution money for new students. Confirm a place is available before paying.

How to pay

Fees are paid into the polytechnic’s KCB Bank account at the Treasury Square branch in Mombasa. The brochure gives separate account numbers for new and continuing students, so check the current brochure or ask the accounts office, and keep your bank slip.
