Why the mining department is hiring at this scale

The two biggest adverts are for geologists and inspectors of explosives, which are regulatory jobs: mapping mineral resources, supervising licensed mines and quarries, and enforcing the rules on blasting. Seventy-one posts at CSG 8 in two cadres point to the department filling senior field and supervisory roles from within the service rather than hiring new graduates. For outsiders, the realistic opening in this round is the Plant Operator post, which asks for no minimum years of experience.

Who counts as a serving officer?

“For Serving Officers Only” adverts are restricted to people already employed in the public service under the PSC’s jurisdiction. If you are not on a government payroll, an application to D112 to D120 will not be considered, however well qualified you are. If you are a serving officer, your application usually needs your personal number and your current designation and grade, and you should follow your department’s internal procedure for releasing staff.

1. Go to psckjobs.go.ke and open “Active Adverts”. Search for the advert number (for example D121/2026).
2. Open “Advert Details” and check the requirements line by line: qualifications, registration with professional bodies, years of experience and any certificates.
3. Create or update your PSC profile: personal details, education, work history, professional memberships and referees.
4. Submit your application online before the closing date, 2 November 2026, and confirm the closing time shown in the advert. Do not leave it to the last evening, and do not pay anyone to “fast-track” a public service job.
5. Keep your clearances ready. Public service appointments normally require Chapter Six documents (KRA tax compliance, HELB, EACC, CRB and a certificate of good conduct) at interview stage.
