ID at agents

You must show your original National ID or Kenyan passport to transact at any Airtel Money agent.

What this means in practice

  • Sending within Airtel is always free, which is the main reason to hold the wallet.
  • Sending to M-Pesa costs the same as an M-Pesa user sending to another M-Pesa user.
  • Withdrawal fees match M-Pesa band for band, so cash out wherever the agent is closest.

See our guides on Airtel Money send money charges and Airtel Money withdrawal charges for tips on each, or the M-Pesa vs Airtel Money comparison.
