Updated 20 October 2026

This fuel cost calculator works out what a trip will cost you in petrol or diesel, using the maximum pump prices the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) set for 15 October to 14 November 2026. Choose your town, enter the distance and your car’s consumption, and it shows the litres you will use, the cost of the trip, the cost per kilometre and, if you like, your monthly fuel bill.

How to Use the Fuel Cost Calculator

Select Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru or Eldoret to load EPRA’s price for that town, then choose super petrol, diesel or kerosene. If you are elsewhere, pick “Other town” and type the price from your nearest station or EPRA’s town list. Enter the one-way distance, tick “Return trip” if you are coming back, and enter your consumption in litres per 100 km or kilometres per litre. Add the number of trips a month to see a monthly budget, which is useful for commuters, boda boda riders, taxi drivers and delivery businesses.

How to Calculate Fuel Cost for a Trip

First work out the litres. If your car uses 8 litres per 100 km, a 200 km trip uses 200 Ă— 8 Ă· 100 = 16 litres. If you know km per litre instead, divide the distance by that figure: 200 Ă· 12.5 = 16 litres. Then multiply the litres by the pump price. At the Nairobi super petrol price of KSh 226.96, 16 litres cost KSh 3,631.36. Divide that by the distance to get a cost of about KSh 18.16 per kilometre.

For a monthly figure, multiply the trip cost by the number of trips. A commuter making 22 return trips of 25 km each way in a car using 8 litres per 100 km uses 88 litres a month, which costs about KSh 19,972 at the Nairobi price.

October 2026 EPRA Prices Used

For 15 October to 14 November 2026, EPRA’s maximum prices per litre are KSh 226.96 for super petrol, KSh 227.76 for diesel and KSh 219.87 for kerosene in Nairobi. Mombasa is KSh 223.81, 224.61 and 216.71. Kisumu and Eldoret are KSh 226.51, 227.71 and 219.83. Nakuru is KSh 225.73, 226.93 and 219.06. These prices include taxes. Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find my car’s fuel consumption?

Fill the tank, reset the trip meter, drive normally, then refill. Divide the litres you put in by the kilometres driven and multiply by 100 for litres per 100 km.

Why does my station charge less than the tool?

EPRA sets a maximum price. Stations may sell below it, so type your station’s price for an exact figure.

Does traffic change the cost?

Yes. Stop-start driving in town can raise consumption well above highway figures, so use your town consumption for city trips.

Can I use it for a generator?

Not directly, as generators use litres per hour. Multiply litres per hour by hours run and by the diesel or petrol price.
