Development Bank of Kenya (DBK) is one of the smallest commercial banks in the country by branch count, and that catches people out when they need to visit one. It has no branch in most towns, so knowing exactly where its offices are, and which phone line to use, saves a wasted trip. This guide lists every Development Bank of Kenya branch with its address, postal box and contacts as published by the bank, plus its banking hours, bank code and SWIFT code.

DBK received its banking licence from the Central Bank of Kenya in 1995 and began operating as a commercial bank in 1997. It is owned by the government through the Industrial and Commercial Development Corporation (ICDC), and its roots in development finance still shape its business: much of its lending goes to manufacturing, agribusiness, trade and medium-sized companies, alongside ordinary personal and business accounts.

The addresses below are taken from the branch directory on the bank’s own website. Every branch uses the same central phone lines, so call 0724 253 981 or 020 790 4800 and ask to be put through to the branch you need.

The bank’s About page still describes a network of four branches, two in Nairobi and one each in Mombasa and Nakuru, with plans to grow into Kisumu. Its branch directory now lists Kisumu as well. If you are travelling to the Kisumu office, call ahead to confirm the services it offers before you go.

Some online directories list a DBK branch in Eldoret. The bank’s own website does not, so treat that listing with caution.

Branches in Nairobi

Nairobi has the head office and two banking halls. The Loita Street branch is on the ground floor of Finance House in the central business district, in the same building as the head office on the 16th floor. That makes it the easiest place to go for anything that needs head-office sign-off, such as large loan applications or trade finance documents. The Ngong Road branch is on the first floor of Pied Mont Plaza and is closer for customers in Kilimani, Kileleshwa, Lavington and Karen. Banking hours

Day Hours
Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 3:00 pm
Saturday 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, first and last Saturday of the month only
Sunday and public holidays Closed

These are the hours the bank publishes on its website. The Saturday rule catches many customers out: DBK branches are only open on the first and last Saturday of each month, so a visit on any other Saturday will find the doors closed.

Bank code, branch codes and SWIFT code

DBK’s bank code in the Kenyan clearing system is 59, and its SWIFT (BIC) code for international transfers is DEVKKENA. Branch-level codes published by third-party directories put the Head Office at 000, Loita Street at 001, Ngong Road at 002, Mombasa at 003 and Nakuru at 004. A Kisumu code has not been widely published. Branch codes are what you need for RTGS, EFT and salary payments into a DBK account, and a wrong code can delay or bounce a transfer. Before you send a large payment, confirm the code on your cheque book, your account opening documents or with the branch.

What you can do at a DBK branch

  • Open personal, joint and business current and savings accounts.
  • Apply for business and project loans, asset finance and working capital facilities.
  • Arrange trade finance, such as letters of credit and guarantees, for importers and exporters. This matters most at the Mombasa branch, near the port.
  • Make fixed deposits and call deposits.
  • Get help with cheques, statements, standing orders and account issues.
