What Kenindia Insures
Kenindia was formed on 6 December 1978 when Indian insurance companies operating in Kenya merged, with backing from local investors. It is regulated by the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) and sells both general and life cover. Its website groups products like this:
- Motor: private, commercial and PSV cover, at third party, third party fire and theft, or comprehensive level.
- Business and property: fire, burglary, all risks, engineering, goods in transit, cash in transit, marine, plate glass, bonds, fidelity guarantee, public liability, professional indemnity, carrier’s legal liability and work injury benefits (WIBA).
- Life plans: 15 Years Money Back, Academic Advantage, Education Endowment, Anticipated Whole Life, Bima Account, Capital Advantage, Christmas Bonus, Dynamic, Economic and Multiple Advantage, Kumi Bora, Nguzo ya Jamii and term assurance.
- Medical: a corporate health plan, Health Save Plan and an individual or family plan.
- Corporate: staff retirement benefit schemes and group life and personal accident cover.
On size, Kenindia’s about page reports combined gross written premium of KSh 13.7 billion in 2021, KSh 11.1 billion in 2022 and KSh 13.1 billion in 2023. For how that compares with the market leaders, see our list of the top insurance companies in Kenya.
How to Pay Your Kenindia Premium
Kenindia’s FAQ says premiums can be paid at any of its branches by cash, cheque or banker’s order, or deducted through your employer (check-off). Life premiums can be paid monthly, quarterly, half-yearly or yearly.
Because no paybill appears anywhere on Kenindia’s website, don’t pay a number someone sends you by SMS or WhatsApp. Ask your branch or agent for the official payment details in writing and always quote your policy number. Kenindia stresses the policy number in its FAQ, since it is how your payment and any claim are matched to you.
If You Miss a Premium
Kenindia’s FAQ says that if premiums aren’t paid within the grace period, cover is suspended and the policy lapses until it is reinstated. If you’re struggling to pay, contact your branch before the grace period runs out.

How to Make a Claim With Kenindia
- Report the loss quickly by calling 0111 101 000 or visiting the branch that handles your policy.
- Get the right claim form. Kenindia’s website has a Claim Forms section under Downloads, separate from its life and general proposal forms.
- Attach supporting documents such as a police abstract for motor accidents and theft, photos, repair estimates and your policy document.
- For life claims, Kenindia’s FAQ says the letter notifying the company of a death must come from the family or the named beneficiary.
For motor claims involving another vehicle, it helps to check a vehicle owner on NTSA so you have the correct owner’s details for your claim form.
Lost Your Policy Document?
Kenindia’s FAQ says you must inform the company in writing as soon as possible. You’ll need the policy document for claims, policy loans and any changes, so the company also suggests telling your spouse, parent or children where it is kept.
Tax Relief on Kenindia Life Policies
According to Kenindia’s FAQ, life policies that started in January 2003 or later and run for at least 10 years qualify for insurance relief of 15% of the annual premium, up to a maximum of KSh 60,000 a year. Ask for a premium certificate if your employer applies the relief through PAYE.
