Updated 24 October 2026

The Kenya Gazette issue published on Friday, October 23, 2026 was dominated by company strike-offs, a fresh batch of board appointments and environmental notices for a large affordable housing scheme in Nairobi. This digest pulls together the notices from that issue that matter most to business owners, investors and anyone who deals with government agencies, based on published coverage of the notices. Where a notice number was not available in that coverage, the notice is identified by its date and the law it was issued under.

In this guide
  1. New Laws and Legal Notices
  2. Public Holidays and Official Dates
  3. Land Acquisitions
  4. Business Deregistrations
  5. Licences and Levies
  6. Appointments
  7. Tenders and Deadlines
  8. Frequently Asked Questions

No new Act of Parliament or major legal notice from the October 23 issue had been reported by Saturday evening. Legal notices are often carried in separate supplements that receive coverage a few days later, so this section will be updated if new regulations from this issue come to light. Businesses following tax changes should note that the zero PAYE proposal and the 9% fringe benefit rate published this month came through Treasury and KRA announcements rather than this Gazette issue. You can read our coverage of the zero PAYE proposal and the KRA fringe benefit rate for the details.

Public Holidays and Official Dates

No new public holiday or change to an existing holiday was gazetted in this issue. The next public holiday on the calendar remains Jamhuri Day on December 12. Our guide to Kenya public holidays for 2026 and 2027 lists every date employers need to plan around.

Land Acquisitions

No new compulsory acquisition notice from the National Land Commission in the October 23 issue had been reported. However, landowners affected by earlier notices should watch their deadlines closely. Under Gazette Notice No. 16419, published in the previous week’s issue, the Commission will hold inquiries for the 124km Barpello, Tot, Sigor and Marich Pass road (Elgeyo Marakwet and West Pokot counties) on behalf of the Kenya National Highways Authority. Those inquiries start on November 10 and run to November 27, and written compensation claims must reach the Commission on or before each inquiry date. Companies with an interest in affected land are expected to bring their certificate of incorporation, CR12 and company KRA PIN.

Business Deregistrations

The biggest business item in the issue came from the Registrar of Companies. In two notices under the Companies Act, the Deputy Registrar of Companies announced that 72 companies have been dissolved and struck off the register with effect from October 23, while 68 more have been given three months to show cause why they should not be removed. We covered the strike-off in more detail in our story on the 72 dissolved firms.

The dissolution notice was issued under section 897(4) of the Act. Companies named in it include:

  • Africode IT Solutions Limited, Algohub Ltd, Amadi Tech Systems Limited and Watsup Open Access Network Limited
  • Amanzi Water Purifiers Limited, Dazon Energy Technology Co. Limited, Energy Of Tomorrow Kenya Limited and Namene Solar East Africa Limited
  • Ayana Healthcare Limited, Mercy Hands Domiciliary Care Limited and Eye Room Limited
  • Ariel Junior Academy Limited, Mango Academy Limited and Combined Computer Training Centre Limited
  • Noble Properties Limited, County Parks Development Limited, Greenzone Investments Limited and Power Hub Investment Limited
  • Summit Textiles (E.A.) Limited, Tropical Milima Tea Limited, Gourmet Coffee Limited and Italian Chemicals Limited
  • North Coast Media House Limited, The Plu Media Limited and Buffalo Branding House Limited
  • Asante Capital Epz Limited, Fairdeal Upvc Aluminium and Glass Limited, Orbital Fasteners Kenya Limited and Skyryan Contractors Limited

The notices did not give reasons for individual strike-offs. A dissolved company no longer exists as a legal entity, so its bank accounts, contracts and any property it held are affected until it is restored through the court or the Registrar. The second notice, under section 897(3), covers 68 firms in real estate, logistics, renewable energy, hospitality, retail and construction. Anyone who believes one of those companies should stay on the register has until about January 23, 2027 to object. If you run a company that has gone quiet, check your annual returns on the Business Registration Service portal, and see our guide on checking a business name on eCitizen.

Licences and Levies

The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) published notices inviting public comment on five Environmental and Social Impact Assessment reports for social and affordable housing in Mugumo-ini Ward, Lang’ata Constituency, Nairobi. The State Department for Housing and Urban Development is the proponent. Together the five lots would deliver 7,128 units: four lots of 1,386 units in 14 blocks each, and one lot of 1,584 units in 16 blocks, all ground plus eight floors. Gazette Notice No. 16886, covering Kibra Lot 5, sets out steps for people who may be displaced, including verifying the register of affected persons before clearance. Comments are due within 30 days of publication, which puts the deadline at about November 22. Contractors and suppliers eyeing the project can follow it through our affordable housing levy guide, since the levy funds this programme. No new licensing fee or levy rate was reported from this issue.

Appointments

Several board appointments were gazetted in notices dated October 23:

  • National Board for Social Protection: the Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection appointed Francis Atwoli, Kenneth Odire and Richard Mativu Musau as members for three years under the Social Protection Act.
  • Wildlife Research and Training Institute: the Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary reappointed Francis Nkoitoi and Albert Long’ora to the board for a further three years.
  • Ewaso Ng’iro South River Basin Development Authority: the Cabinet Secretary for EAC, ASALs and Regional Development reappointed Judith Nkomoni Kirorei, Pacha Amos Ntaika and Agnes Sempeyo Nairowua for one year.
  • Council of Legal Education: the President reappointed Prof. Collins Odote Oloo as non-executive chairperson for three more years.
  • School unrest task team: the Education Cabinet Secretary named a task team chaired by Prof. Peter Mulwa Mbithi, a former University of Nairobi Vice-Chancellor, to work for 90 days. Its terms include school fees, the cost of uniforms, boarding school management and school safety, which matters to uniform makers, school suppliers and private school operators.

Tenders and Deadlines

No public tender was reported from the Gazette issue itself, as most procurement notices run in newspapers and on the PPIP portal. The key dates from this week’s notices are:

  • November 10 to 27: NLC land inquiries for the Barpello to Marich Pass road (Notice No. 16419)
  • About November 22: last day for comments on the five Lang’ata housing ESIA reports (including Notice No. 16886)
  • About January 21, 2027: the school unrest task team’s 90-day term ends
  • About January 23, 2027: deadline to object to the strike-off of the 68 listed companies

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the Kenya Gazette published?

The regular issue comes out every Friday, with special issues and supplements released on other days when needed.

Can a dissolved company be restored?

Yes. The Companies Act allows a struck-off company to apply to the Registrar or the court for restoration, usually after filing any missing returns and paying penalties.

How do I comment on a NEMA ESIA report?

Read the report at NEMA’s offices or on its website, then send written or oral comments to the Director-General within 30 days of the Gazette notice, quoting the project reference number.

What happens if I miss an NLC land inquiry?

The Commission can still make an award based on the information it has, so landowners should submit their written claim on or before the inquiry date to protect their compensation.
