Updated 18 October 2026
The Kenya School of Law (KSL) runs a tuition programme for the Certified Secretaries (CS) qualification, the professional course examined by KASNEB for company secretaries and governance practitioners. Classes are online in the evenings, the course is split into three levels of three months each, and KSL admits new students three times a year. This guide covers the current fees, entry requirements, intakes and how to apply, based on KSL’s September 2026 course notice (course code CS02/2026) and its CS course FAQs.

What the CS qualification is for
KSL describes the CS qualification as a key requirement for working as a company secretary, governance practitioner, governance and compliance auditor, or policy and governance consultant. By the end of the course, KSL says learners should be able to apply good governance principles in public and private bodies, comply with legal, regulatory and ethical requirements, run meetings properly, manage boardroom dynamics, give corporate secretarial advice and carry out governance and compliance audits. KSL says more than 500 participants have trained on the programme.
Intakes and how they match KASNEB exams
KSL takes students in January, May and September so that each intake lines up with a KASNEB sitting:
- The January intake prepares for the April KASNEB exams.
- The May intake prepares for the August exams.
- The September intake prepares for the December exams.
All three levels are taught at the same time in each intake, so you can join at whichever level you have reached. With the September 2026 class under way, the next intake is January 2027, aimed at the April 2027 exams.
Entry requirements
To register as a CS student you need at least one of these:
- KCSE with a mean grade of C+ (C plus) or its equivalent.
- KACE with at least two principal passes, plus credits in Mathematics and English at KCE level or equivalent.
- A KASNEB technician, diploma or professional examination certificate.
- A degree from a recognised university.
- IGCSE with grade C in six papers, including C in both English and Mathematics.
- Any other certificate or diploma approved by KASNEB.
If you have not yet confirmed your grade, our guide to the law (LLB) cut-off points also helps school leavers weigh a law degree against professional routes like CS.
Exemptions
Lawyers and advocates are entitled to exemptions, and KSL says degree holders may also qualify for some. The course notice advertises more than 20 possible exemptions. Exemptions are granted by KASNEB, which charges its own exemption fee, so check the KASNEB exemption schedule for your qualification before you pay tuition for papers you may not need to sit.

KSL CS course fees
KSL charges tuition per unit (per paper), and the rate rises with each level:
| Level | Duration | Tuition per unit |
|---|---|---|
| Foundation | 3 months | KSh 7,500 |
| Intermediate | 3 months | KSh 8,000 |
| Advanced | 3 months | KSh 9,000 |
On top of tuition you pay a KSh 2,000 application fee and a KSh 5,000 library fee, each only once during your studies. As an example, a student taking four Foundation units would pay KSh 30,000 in tuition, plus KSh 7,000 in one-off fees in their first intake, for a total of KSh 37,000 before KASNEB charges. The per-unit fee does not cover KASNEB registration, examination or exemption fees, which you pay to KASNEB directly.
How to pay
- Pay the KSh 2,000 application fee to Absa Bank PLC, Absa Plaza Branch, Nairobi, account number 202 2029 110, or through paybill 303030.
- Email the deposit slip, showing your name, to finance@ksl.ac.ke.
- After admission, pay tuition. The September 2026 notice requires 100% of the total fee upon admission. KSL’s older FAQ page describes a split of 75% before registration and 25% within the first month, so confirm which rule applies to your intake when you get your fee structure.
How to apply
- Check that you meet one of the entry requirements and work out which exemptions you can claim.
- Register through the online application link on the KSL website’s CS course page.
- Pay the application fee and send the slip to the finance office.
- Wait for your admission letter and fee structure, which KSL sends by email after registration.
- Pay tuition, then register for your papers with KASNEB separately.
