Updated 17 October 2026
Maisha Bora Sacco paid 20% on share capital and 11% on savings for 2025, the same rates as for 2024. That makes it one of the few Saccos paying 20% on shares. Estimate your own return below.
Rates are what was last published, gross of tax. Money market funds are compounded monthly; bills, bonds, deposits and SACCO returns are worked out as simple interest. Your actual return will differ.
The preset applies 11% to savings. To estimate the dividend, enter your share capital and set the rate to 20%. The calculator deducts withholding tax.
Rates by Year
| Financial year | Dividend on share capital | Interest on savings |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | 20% | 11% |
| 2024 | 20% | 11% |
How Maisha Bora Works Out Your Payout
Maisha Bora explains its method in its FAQ. The rate approved at the AGM is applied to your opening balance at the start of the year, and it is prorated for contributions you make during the year. Only qualifying deposits earn interest each month. Both the dividend and the rebate are subject to withholding tax at the rate KRA sets.
So money you add in December earns very little for that year. If you want a bigger payout, saving early in the year counts for more than saving the same amount late.
Share Capital: High Minimum, High Ceiling
The minimum share capital is KSh 35,000 and the maximum is KSh 1,000,000. Share capital cannot be refunded; when you leave, you can sell it to an existing member. Because shares earn 20% and savings 11%, a member with spare cash might be tempted to put more into shares. The trade-off is that shares are locked in, while your savings are what your loans are based on.
Example
KSh 35,000 in shares at 20% earns KSh 7,000. KSh 150,000 in savings held all year at 11% earns KSh 16,500. The total is KSh 23,500 before tax, or KSh 22,325 after 5% withholding tax.
