Remitly Kenya transfers can be paid out to an M-Pesa, Airtel Money or Equitel wallet, deposited into most Kenyan bank accounts, or collected as cash, and from the United States Remitly now allows up to USD 300,000 in a single transfer, depending on your verification level, payment method and destination. This guide explains the payout options, limits, what the sender needs, how the delivery promise works and how a Kenyan recipient gets help.
Updated 1 November 2026 from Remitly’s Kenya and US send-limits pages. Exchange rates and fees change by the minute; always check the quote in the app before you pay.
Remitly Kenya payout options
| Option | Where the money lands | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile wallet | M-Pesa, Airtel Money or Equitel Money | Fast family support; recipient can withdraw at any agent |
| Bank deposit | A Kenyan bank account (Remitly lists KCB, Equity, Co-operative, Absa, NCBA, DTB, I&M, Family, National Bank and many more) | Larger amounts, school fees, loan repayments, savings |
| Cash pickup | Through Remitly’s partner network in Kenya | Recipients without a wallet or account |
The recipient’s name must match the registered M-Pesa or bank account name, or the transfer can be delayed or returned. Large amounts to a wallet can also hit the mobile money provider’s own limits, so for big sums a bank deposit is usually smoother. For the receiving side of M-Pesa, see M-Pesa charges and limits.
How much can you send with Remitly to Kenya?
Remitly says that, as of August 2026, the maximum you can send from the United States is USD 300,000 per transaction. Your personal limit may be lower, depending on:
- your account verification level;
- the payment method (bank account, debit or credit card);
- the destination country and delivery method; and
- your transfer history.
The app shows your available limit before you confirm. To raise it, Remitly may ask for ID (passport, SSN or ITIN in the US), proof of address such as a utility bill, information on your occupation, source of funds and reason for sending, or bank statements and pay slips. Some receiving methods in Kenya have their own caps, which you will see when setting up the transfer.
One useful detail for US senders: Remitly says the 1% US remittance tax does not apply to digital transfers sent through it.

- Pick the delivery option (M-Pesa, bank or cash pickup) and enter the recipient’s details exactly as registered.

Delivery promise, fees and getting the best rate
Remitly promises that every transfer will be delivered on time, or it refunds your fees. That covers the fee, not exchange-rate movements. The total cost of any transfer is the fee plus the margin built into the exchange rate, so compare the amount in Kenya shillings that will arrive, not just the headline fee. Our cheapest way to send money to Kenya guide compares providers on that basis, and M-Pesa Global limits and charges covers Safaricom’s own service.
Help and complaints
Senders manage transfers, cancellations and refunds through Remitly’s in-app help centre, which offers 24/7 support. Recipients in Kenya with a problem should first confirm the transfer reference with the sender, then check that the wallet or account name matches. If money sent to M-Pesa does not arrive, the sender should raise it with Remitly, not Safaricom, since Remitly controls the transfer until it is paid out.
