Updated 19 October 2026
Kangundo Road runs east from Nairobi through Njiru, Ruai and Kamulu into Joska and Malaa on the Machakos side, and it has become one of the busiest areas in the city for private schools. Rapid housing growth has pulled in schools of every size, from small CBC centres to large day and boarding campuses.
Below are nine private primary schools along the Kangundo Road corridor that we could confirm through their own websites or published documents. For each one we give the location, what it teaches, contacts and fees where the school publishes them. Most schools on this road do not post fees online, so we say so instead of guessing. The list runs roughly from Ruai outwards and is not a ranking.

How to Choose a Private School on Kangundo Road
- Confirm registration. Every private school must be registered with the Ministry of Education. Ask to see the registration certificate, or check with the Sub-County Director of Education in Njiru (Nairobi side) or Kangundo and Matungulu (Machakos side). Our guide on how schools are registered in Kenya explains what a compliant school needs.
- Get the full fee sheet. As the St. Philip Neri example shows, tuition is only part of the bill. Ask about admission, transport, lunch, uniform, book fund and activity fees.
- Check transport routes. Traffic on Kangundo Road is heavy at peak hours. A school bus that picks up at your stage can matter more than a slightly lower fee.
- Ask about junior school. Grades 7 to 9 now sit in junior school, so check whether the school offers them on the same campus.
- Plan around the calendar. Most schools admit at the start of each term. See our Kenya school calendar for 2026.
