Progressive Credit Limited (PCL) is a Kenyan non-deposit taking microfinance lender that has been operating since October 2011. It lends to salaried workers, small traders, SMEs, farmers and car owners, and also runs mobile loans under the Nawiri brand. Its own website says it has a network of more than 27 branches across Kenya, plus an office in Lubumbashi in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The branch list below is taken from the Branches and Contact Us pages on progressivecr.co.ke. Phone numbers are shown exactly as Progressive Credit publishes them. Branch numbers change from time to time, so if a line does not go through, use the head office or customer care contacts further down.

Progressive Credit head office

The head office is in Upper Hill, Nairobi, at Flamingo Towers, 2nd Floor, Mara Road. The main lines are 0700 600 900, 0730 669 000 and 0702 698 577, and the general email is info@progressivecr.com. Note that the Central Bank of Kenya digital credit directory lists the company’s physical location as the 7th floor of Flamingo Towers, with postal address P.O. Box 64036-00640 Nairobi and phone 0730 669 811, so ask for the right floor when you visit.

That is 24 branches with published addresses, including the head office. Progressive Credit says its network is larger than this, so if your town is not on the list, call the head office and ask which branch serves your area.

Customer care and complaints

For feedback or complaints, Progressive Credit gives a separate customer care line, 0704 448 755, the email cs@progressivecr.com and WhatsApp +254 789 796 477. The WhatsApp number 0700 600 900 is also listed on the contact page for general enquiries. Keep a record of the date, the person you spoke to and your loan account number when you raise a complaint, because you will need these if you escalate it.

What Progressive Credit lends for

According to the company’s About Us page, its lending covers consumer loans, micro and SME loans, corporate lending, agribusiness and logbook loans. Branch staff handle loan applications, documentation and repayment questions, while the Nawiri brand handles smaller mobile loans. Progressive Credit does not take deposits, so you cannot open a savings account with it the way you would with a bank or a deposit-taking microfinance bank.

For logbook loans in particular, the lender will usually want the original logbook, a valuation of the car and insurance cover before paying out. Ask the branch for the full cost of the loan in KSh, including interest, valuation, tracking and any processing fees, before you sign. Comparing that total with other lenders is the best way to see what you are really paying.

Before you apply

• Carry your national ID, KRA PIN, recent payslips or business records and bank or M-Pesa statements. Requirements vary by product, so call the branch first.
• Pay only into the company’s official paybill or bank account and keep the receipts. Do not pay any fee into a personal number.
