Total dividend per share by financial year
| Financial year | Interim | Final | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2022 | KSh 0.20 | KSh 1.15 | KSh 1.35 |
| 2023 | KSh 0.20 | KSh 1.35 | KSh 1.55 |
| 2024 | KSh 0.20 | KSh 1.55 | KSh 1.75 |
| 2025 | KSh 0.20 | KSh 1.85 | KSh 2.05 |
| 2026 | KSh 0.50 | Usually announced in March | – |
The pattern is easy to read. For four years the interim stayed at 20 cents while the final rose by about 20 to 30 cents each year, lifting the total from KSh 1.35 to KSh 2.05. In 2026 the bank broke that pattern by paying an interim of 50 cents, two and a half times the usual amount. A bigger interim does not automatically mean a bigger total, because some companies simply move part of the final forward. The final dividend for 2026, normally announced with full-year results in March and paid in May, will show which way the bank has gone.

To turn this into a yield, divide the annual dividend by the price you pay for each share and multiply by 100. Our P/E, EPS and dividend yield explainer walks through the maths and the common traps, such as buying a share only because last year’s yield looked high.
How Absa compares with other banks
Absa pays most of its dividend as a final, like most Kenyan banks. Standard Chartered and KCB also pay twice a year, while the size of each payment varies widely from bank to bank. If you are choosing between bank shares, look at the trend in payouts, not one year. See KCB’s dividend history, and our side-by-side Absa vs Stanbic vs Standard Chartered comparison of the banks as service providers.
How to qualify and get paid
- Own the shares before book closure. Shares bought on or after the ex-dividend date do not qualify for that payment. Upcoming dates for all companies are in our NSE dividend calendar.
- Keep your CDS account details current so the registrar can pay to your bank account or M-Pesa.
- Follow up missing payments. See how to check and claim unclaimed dividends.
