Britam Dividend History: When Did It Last Pay?

Updated 1 November 2026

Britam dividend history in short: Britam Holdings Plc has not paid a dividend since 3 Jul 2020, when it paid KSh 0.25 per share. Before that it paid KSh 0.35 in 2018 and KSh 0.30 in 2017 and 2016. No dividend has been declared for 2021 to 2025, and none had been announced for 2026 when we checked on 1 November 2026. Below is the full record, what it means if you hold Britam shares and how to make sure you are paid if payouts resume.

Updated 1 November 2026. Figures are from S&P Global Market Intelligence dividend data (see sources below). Amounts are per share, before withholding tax.

Total Britam dividend per share by year paid

Year paid Payments Total per share
2020 1 KSh 0.25
2018 1 KSh 0.35
2017 1 KSh 0.30
2016 1 KSh 0.30

Britam has not paid a dividend since July 2020 (KSh 0.25 per share). Anyone buying Britam shares today is betting on price growth, not income. Years are grouped by when the money was paid, not by the financial year the dividend relates to, so a year with two payments is not necessarily a bigger year for profits.

What this means for Britam shareholders

If you own Britam shares, you have received no dividend income for more than six years. At KSh 18.05 a share (close on 30 Oct 2026), 1,000 shares cost about KSh 18,050. If you want regular income from the same group without holding the shares, compare the Britam money market fund, which pays interest daily rather than dividends. Watch the full-year results, usually released in March or April, for any change in dividend policy.

How to qualify for Britam dividends

  1. Own the shares before the ex-dividend date. If you buy on or after that date, the seller gets the dividend. Track upcoming dates in our NSE dividend calendar.
  2. Hold them in your own CDS account through a licensed stockbroker; see how to buy shares on the NSE. Keep your bank or M-Pesa details up to date with the share registrar so payments are not returned.
  3. Claim anything missing. Unpaid dividends are eventually transferred to the Unclaimed Financial Assets Authority; see how to check and claim unclaimed dividends.
