What explains the gap?
Jubilee sold majority stakes in its general insurance businesses to Allianz in earlier years and now focuses on life, health and asset management, alongside its stakes in other businesses. Its trailing net income grew about 22% while revenue was flat. A P/E below 5 suggests the market values it well below its reported earnings.
CIC grew revenue about 20% but net income fell about 61% over the last 12 months, which pushes its P/E up despite the low share price. Its low price per share makes it easy to buy in small amounts, but a low share price is not the same as a cheap company.
Both insurers publish full-year results around March or April and half-year results in late August or September; S&P lists their next earnings around 27 November 2026. Check the results before each dividend season.
Who might prefer which?
- Higher yield and earnings cover: Jubilee, on current data.
- Small, regular purchases: CIC’s KSh 4.73 price lets you buy hundreds of shares with a few thousand shillings.
- Two payments a year: Jubilee.
- Recovery bet: CIC, if you expect profit to rebound; that is a view, not something the data shows.

How to qualify for Jubilee or CIC dividends
- Hold the shares in your own CDS account through a CMA-licensed stockbroker before the ex-dividend date. If you buy on or after that date, the seller keeps the dividend.
- Watch the results announcements. The final dividend for both insurers is proposed with the full-year results, usually in March or April, and approved at the AGM. Jubilee’s interim comes with its half-year results.
- Keep your payment details current with the share registrar or your broker, so the money reaches your bank account or M-Pesa.
- Check for old payments. Dividends that were never collected are eventually passed to the Unclaimed Financial Assets Authority; see how to check and claim unclaimed dividends.
Upcoming book closure dates for both companies, once announced, appear in our NSE dividend calendar. Before comparing Jubilee vs CIC shares on yield alone, remember that a yield is worked out on past dividends and today’s price, and either can change.
