How the Stima Sacco loan multiplier works

The multiplier sets the most you can borrow against your Alpha deposits (the deposits that also earn the yearly interest rebate). With KSh 300,000 in Alpha deposits:

  • A Normal or SOSA loan at 4x lets you borrow up to KSh 1.2 million.
  • A Premium or Make Over loan at 5x lets you borrow up to KSh 1.5 million.

The amount you actually get also depends on your payslip or income: the repayment has to fit what you can pay each month. Raising your deposits is the fastest way to raise your limit, and those deposits earned an 11% rebate for 2025. See Stima Sacco dividends and rebates and the Stima Sacco dividend calculator.

What Stima Sacco loans cost each month

  • KSh 500,000 Normal loan at 12% over 60 months: about KSh 11,122 a month.
  • KSh 1 million Premium loan at 13% over 96 months: about KSh 16,807 a month.
  • KSh 3 million Mwangaza loan at 14% over 48 months: about KSh 81,979 a month.
  • KSh 1 million Make Over loan at 18% over 48 months: about KSh 29,375 a month.
  • KSh 200,000 SOSA loan at 15% over 24 months: about KSh 9,697 a month.

These figures leave out insurance and processing charges. Use the Stima Sacco loan calculator for your own amount.

Stima Sacco Mpawa loan

Mpawa is Stima’s mobile loan. Dial *489# on the phone number registered with the Sacco, choose loans and follow the prompts. The limit goes up to KSh 120,000 and the loan is repaid within six months. The same menu lets you move money from your Prime account to M-Pesa. Funika, the 30-day loan of up to KSh 15,000, is charged at 1% a day, so it is far more expensive than the Mpawa or SOSA loans and best kept for genuine emergencies.

Requirements for Stima Sacco loans

  1. At least three months as a member.
  2. Full share capital of KSh 25,000 in place.
  3. Regular monthly deposits (at least KSh 1,000, or KSh 500 for business accounts) and an up-to-date KSh 125 monthly risk fund.
  4. Guarantors or enough deposits to secure the loan, plus your latest payslip or business records.
  5. No loan arrears. The Sacco uses dividends to clear defaulted loans before paying you.
