What an executive medical check-up usually tests
Across the packages, the tests fall into a few groups:
- Metabolic: fasting blood sugar and HbA1c for diabetes; lipid profile or cholesterol for heart risk.
- Organ function: kidney (creatinine or UEC) and liver function tests; thyroid-stimulating hormone.
- Cancer screening: PSA for men; Pap smear, breast ultrasound and mammogram (over 40) for women; stool occult blood.
- Heart: an electrocardiogram (ECG) in the mid and premium tiers.
- Bone and body composition: DEXA scans and body composition in the premium tiers.
- Other reviews: eye, dental and, for women, gynaecology consultations at the top end.
Aga Khan executive clinic packages
Aga Khan University Hospital says its Peponi and Karen executive clinics offer annual medical check-ups and pre-employment medical examinations. Its page lists Well Man and Well Woman “Expance” and “Peak” packages, each split into three age bands: 39 and below, 40 to 64, and 65 and above, plus child and adolescent screening. Prices are not shown on the page, so request a quote for the package and age band you need.
How to choose the right executive medical check-up
- Match the package to your age and risks. Age-banded packages exist because screening needs change after 40.
- Look at the tests, not the name. Compare which tests are included rather than the package label.
- Ask about the doctor’s review. The value is in the consultation that explains your results and next steps.
- Repeat yearly if your doctor advises it, and keep your results to track changes.
- Avoid duplication. If your employer or insurer already pays for some screening, skip repeats.
Booking, insurance and paying
M.P. Shah says its packages are by appointment and are available to both cash payers and insured patients. If you are using insurance, bring a letter of undertaking from your insurer. Many corporate medical covers include an annual wellness benefit, so check your policy before paying cash. Companies that buy check-ups for senior staff often combine them with other executive benefits such as medical evacuation cover.
How to prepare
M.P. Shah’s brochure asks patients to:
- avoid eating or drinking anything except plain water for at least eight hours before the check-up;
- tell the nurse about any pre-existing medical condition;
- bring a list of any medicines you take.
Plan for a half-day appointment for the larger packages and book early in the morning so fasting is easier.
Is an executive medical check-up worth it?
For busy executives, an annual executive medical check-up packs several screening tests and a doctor’s review into one visit, which is easier than booking each test separately. It is most useful when results lead to action, such as treating high blood pressure early. If you are on a tight budget, a basic package plus age-appropriate cancer screening covers the essentials.
