Withdrawing cash from T-Kash works much like other mobile money services, with one key difference. Instead of sending money to the agent’s number, you generate a T-Kash code on your phone and hand it to the agent, who uses it to complete the withdrawal. This guide explains the full process, what to carry, what it costs and how to stay safe at the agent.

Before You Go

  • Carry your original ID or passport. Agents must see the original. Photocopies and photos on your phone are not accepted.
  • Check your balance so you know you have enough to cover both the amount and the fee.
  • Find a T-Kash agent. Not every mobile money shop handles T-Kash, so look for T-Kash branding or ask.

Step by Step: Withdrawing Cash

  1. Ask the agent whether they have enough cash for the amount you want.
  2. Give the agent your original ID.
  3. Open the T-Kash menu on your phone and select Withdraw Cash.
  4. Select From Agent.
  5. Enter the amount and check the details.
  6. Enter your T-Kash PIN and send.
  7. You receive an SMS with a T-Kash code.
  8. Give the code to the agent. The agent processes it on their device.
  9. You and the agent both receive confirmation messages.
  10. Sign the agent’s log book and collect your cash. Count it before leaving.

What It Costs

The withdrawal fee depends on how much you take out and rises in bands with the amount. The exact charge is displayed on your phone before you confirm, so you always know the fee in advance. Read more in our guide to moving money between M-Pesa, Airtel Money and T-Kash. Deposits at agents are free, so topping up costs nothing.

Limits

Limit Amount
Per transaction KSh 250,000
Per day KSh 500,000
Maximum wallet balance KSh 500,000

Agents can also have their own cash limits during the day. For large withdrawals, call ahead or visit a bigger agent or Telkom shop.

Safety Tips at the Agent

  • Do not hand over the code early. Wait until the agent is ready to pay.
  • Cover the keypad when entering your PIN.
  • Never tell the agent your PIN. They never need it.
  • Check the confirmation SMS to make sure the amount is correct before leaving.
  • Use busy, well known agents where possible, especially for large sums.

Alternatives to Withdrawing Cash

Every withdrawal costs a fee. If you are paying a shop, landlord or supplier, it is often cheaper to pay directly from T-Kash or to send to their M-Pesa or Airtel Money number. Compare fees using our guides to M-Pesa withdrawal charges and Airtel Money withdrawal charges.

Planning Large Withdrawals

If you need a large amount of cash, for example to pay workers or buy stock, plan ahead. Small agents often keep limited cash, especially early in the morning and late in the evening. Call the agent first, or go to a Telkom shop or a busy agent in a town centre. Splitting a big withdrawal across two agents can work, but remember that each withdrawal carries its own fee, so one larger withdrawal is usually cheaper than several small ones. Keep the daily limit of KSh 500,000 in mind and avoid carrying large sums of cash where you can pay electronically instead. Paying suppliers directly from your wallet also leaves a clear record of each payment.

Problems and Fixes

The code expired. Codes are valid for a limited time. If the agent could not use it in time, generate a new one. The amount is not deducted until the agent completes the withdrawal.

Money left my account but I got no cash. Do not leave. Ask the agent to check their confirmation. If there is a dispute, call Telkom customer care with your transaction details.

The agent has no cash. Try another agent. Do not generate a code until the agent confirms they can pay.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need a T-Kash code?

The code authorises the agent to pay you and protects you, because nothing is completed without it.

Can someone else withdraw for me?

The account holder should withdraw with their own original ID.

How much does a T-Kash withdrawal cost?

It depends on the amount and is shown before you confirm.

What is the most I can withdraw?

Up to KSh 250,000 per transaction and KSh 500,000 a day, subject to the agent’s cash.

Can I withdraw at an ATM?

Ask Telkom about current options. Agent withdrawal is the standard method.
