Updated 21 October 2026
Harambee DT Sacco paid members a 15% dividend on share capital and 9.1% interest on deposits for 2025. The deposit return fell short of the 10% the Sacco had aimed for, and its chief executive, Dr George Ochiri, told the 2026 delegates symposium in Mombasa that liquidity and member retention were now priorities. Use the calculator to see what the 9.1% rate means for your savings.
Rates are what was last published, gross of tax. Money market funds are compounded monthly; bills, bonds, deposits and SACCO returns are worked out as simple interest. Your actual return will differ.
The calculator uses the 9.1% deposit rate. Switch it to 15% to estimate the dividend on your share capital. It applies the 5% withholding tax on Sacco payouts.
Harambee Sacco Returns by Year
| Financial year | Dividend on share capital | Interest on deposits |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 (paid 2026) | 15% | 9.1% |
| 2024 (paid 2025) | 15% | 9% |
So the deposit rate rose slightly, by 0.1 percentage points, while the dividend held at 15%.
The 2025 Numbers Behind the Payout
Harambee’s total assets rose to KSh 41.29 billion in 2025 and net surplus to KSh 1.67 billion. Loans to members reached KSh 34.27 billion and member deposits KSh 27.56 billion. Active membership grew to 79,942 from 74,991, but dormant accounts rose to 4,910, which is the retention problem management flagged.
The Sacco’s liquid assets recovered to KSh 941 million from KSh 477 million in 2024, and it had KSh 2.5 billion in external borrowing. Core capital was KSh 6.11 billion, or 14.8% of total assets, above regulatory minimums, but institutional capital was 7.7% of assets, below the recommended benchmark. For a member, that mix explains the cautious deposit rate: the Sacco is lending heavily and needs to rebuild reserves and cash.
Worked Example
A member with KSh 250,000 in deposits through 2025 and KSh 30,000 in share capital would have received KSh 22,750 in interest and KSh 4,500 in dividends, KSh 27,250 before tax, or about KSh 25,890 after the 5% withholding tax.
