About the Sacco
Cosmopolitan was set up in 1977 to encourage members to save and to give them a pool of funds to borrow from at a fair cost. SASRA has regulated it as a deposit-taking Sacco since 2011. Its main office is Natec Plaza on Kijabe Lane in Nakuru. In 2024 it opened an office in Olenguruone and put up new network masts in Orkuto and Olenguruone to improve service in those areas.
The 2024 Results Behind the Rates
At the 45th AGM, chairman John Rukwaro reported total income of KSh 1.61 billion for 2024, up from KSh 1.35 billion, and a payout of more than KSh 870 million to members. Assets rose to KSh 11.68 billion, deposits to KSh 9.06 billion and the loan book to KSh 8.94 billion. Membership grew 13.19% to 38,629. One driver of the loan growth was the salary advance product, whose repayment period was extended from 12 to 18 months.

A member with KSh 180,000 in deposits and KSh 20,000 in shares would earn KSh 21,690 in interest and KSh 3,300 in dividend, KSh 24,990 in total. After the 5% withholding tax that is about KSh 23,740.

Share capital is compulsory. It earns the dividend but cannot be refunded; on exit, you transfer it to another member. Deposits earn the yearly interest and are what the Sacco uses to set your loan limit.
