Fuliza Charges Calculator 2026: Access Fee, Daily Fee & Excise

Fuliza is Safaricom’s M-PESA overdraft, provided with partner banks NCBA and KCB. It lets you complete a payment when your M-PESA balance is too low. Enter the amount you’ve overdrawn and how many days until you repay to see the cost.

Estimate only. Rates checked 13 Oct 2026.

Fuliza charges

Safaricom charges a one-off access fee of 1% of the amount you draw, plus a daily maintenance fee from midnight (00:00) the next day on the outstanding balance. Excise duty of 20% is charged on the daily maintenance fee.

Outstanding (KES) Daily fee Excise (20%) Total per day
0–100 0 0 0
101–500 2.50 0.50 3.00
501–1,000 5 1 6
1,001–1,500 18 3.60 21.60
1,501–2,500 20 4 24
2,501–70,000 25 5 30

In its September 2022 announcement, Safaricom said the daily maintenance fee is waived for the first three days on Fuliza balances of KES 1,000 and below. The calculator applies that waiver. Its main Fuliza page lists the band fees above without mentioning the waiver, so check your statement.

Eligibility and limits

You need an active Safaricom M-PESA line registered with a national ID, Kenyan passport or military ID. Lines registered with a foreign passport cannot opt in. Limits are given to customers who have been on the network for at least six months, based on line activity, and are reviewed up or down depending on usage and on-time repayment. Opt in by dialling *334# and choosing Loans and Savings, then Fuliza.

Keeping Fuliza cheap

Because the daily fee is charged per day, clearing the balance quickly matters more than the access fee. Any money deposited into M-PESA goes first to repaying the outstanding Fuliza balance.
