Where to register as a voter in 2026
IEBC launched Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) on 29 September 2025. In its 10 September 2026 statement, the Commission said CVR is running at:
- All 290 IEBC constituency offices.
- All Huduma Centres (book a slot with our Huduma Centre appointment guide).
- The IEBC Customer Experience Centre, Anniversary Towers, 6th floor, University Way, Nairobi.
- Other strategic locations where IEBC deploys registration kits, such as universities.
How to register as a voter in Kenya: step by step
- Check you are eligible: a Kenyan citizen aged 18 or over with an original national ID card or valid Kenyan passport.
- Go in person to a registration centre during working hours. You register in the constituency where you want to vote.
- Fill in Form A (Application for Registration) with the registration officer.
- Biometric capture: your fingerprints and photo are taken on the BVR kit.
- Collect your acknowledgement slip with your voter details. IEBC notes the slip is not required to vote, but keep it.
- Verify your registration on the IEBC portal (see below) a few days later.
No ID yet? Start with how to apply for a national ID, or if you lost yours, how to replace a lost ID. IEBC does not issue IDs or passports.
When IEBC can refuse your registration
- You are under 18.
- You do not have the original ID card or a valid Kenyan passport.
- You are an undischarged bankrupt.
- You were found guilty of an election offence by an election court in the previous five years.
- A court has declared you to be of unsound mind.
Do not register twice
You may register only once. IEBC warns that registering more than once is an offence punishable by a fine of up to KSh 100,000, up to one year in prison, or both, and a ban from the next two elections. If you moved, transfer instead.
How to transfer your polling station
You can move your registration to another centre or constituency during the registration period. IEBC says voter transfer services are offered only at its constituency offices, not elsewhere, and transfer applicants do not get a new acknowledgement slip because their details are already in the register.
How to check if you are a registered voter
- Open the IEBC Voter Verification Portal at verify.iebc.or.ke.
- Enter your document number (national ID or passport number) and the other required fields.
- Submit to see your voting particulars, including your registration centre.
If details are wrong or missing, visit your constituency office with your ID. IEBC says biometric verification lets voters inspect their details before election day, and the register will be audited before 2027.
