Saudi Arabia is one of the largest destinations for Kenyan workers, especially in domestic work, hospitality, security, driving and healthcare. Many people work there successfully and send money home, but the route also attracts fake agents and abusive employers. This guide explains how to look for jobs in Saudi Arabia safely, the documents you will need and where to get help. It does not quote salaries, because pay depends on the job, the employer and the contract you sign.

Step 1: Use Only a Licensed Agency

Private recruitment agencies in Kenya must be accredited by the National Employment Authority (NEA). Agencies that recruit for jobs abroad must also hold a KSh 1,500,000 security bond. Before paying anything, search the agency on the NEAIMS list or the diaspora verification tool. Our guide on checking if a recruitment agency is licensed explains every step.

Step 2: Read the Contract Carefully

A genuine offer names the employer and spells out:

  • Job title and duties.
  • Monthly pay, how it is paid and when.
  • Working hours, rest days and leave.
  • Accommodation, food and medical cover.
  • Contract length and who pays the return ticket.

Keep a copy and share another with a family member. Refuse to travel on a tourist or visit visa for a job. That leaves you without legal protection.

Step 3: Prepare Your Documents

  1. A valid Kenyan passport.
  2. Certificate of good conduct.
  3. Academic and professional certificates, where the job needs them.
  4. Medical fitness report from an approved centre.
  5. Pre-departure training certificate, where required.
  6. Signed employment contract.

Our list of documents needed for job applications covers the basics most employers ask for.

Step 4: Medical Test and Training

Saudi work visas require a medical examination at a centre approved for Gulf countries. Domestic workers are usually hired through Saudi Arabia’s Musaned platform, which links employers, recruitment offices and workers. Kenyan authorities also require pre-departure training for many outbound workers, which covers rights, culture, language basics and what to do in an emergency.

Step 5: Stay Safe After You Arrive

  • Keep copies of your passport, visa and contract on your phone and with family.
  • Save the contacts of the Kenyan embassy in Riyadh and the consulate in Jeddah.
  • Stay in touch with your agency, which remains responsible for you under its licence.
  • If you are abused, unpaid or have your passport taken, contact the embassy or consulate.

Questions to Ask Before You Sign

  • Who exactly is the employer, and can I see the employer’s details in writing?
  • What is the total amount I must pay the agency, and what does each payment cover?
  • Who keeps my passport after arrival?
  • What happens if the employer ends the contract early, and who pays my ticket home?
  • Who do I call at the agency if there is a problem, and is that number staffed in Saudi Arabia or in Kenya?

Write down the answers and keep them with your contract. A genuine agency will answer clearly.

Red Flags to Walk Away From

  • An agent who is not on the NEA list or whose status is Expired.
  • Requests to pay large sums into personal M-Pesa numbers.
  • No written contract, or a contract that changes after you arrive.
  • Travel on a visit visa with a promise to convert it later.
