Keeping track of your KCB M-Pesa account helps you avoid surprises. Before borrowing again, you should know exactly what you owe, when it is due, what your limit is and how your savings are growing. All of this is available free on your M-Pesa menu. This guide shows how to check your balance, your loan, your limit and your statement, and what to do when the figures do not look right.
How to Check Your KCB M-Pesa Balance
- Open the M-Pesa menu on your SIM toolkit or the M-Pesa app.
- Go to Loans and Savings, then KCB M-Pesa.
- Select My Account.
- Choose Check Balance.
- Enter your M-Pesa PIN.
You receive an SMS showing your savings balance and any outstanding loan balance.
How to Get a Mini Statement
- Go to M-Pesa, Loans and Savings, KCB M-Pesa.
- Select My Account, then Request Mini Statement.
- Enter your PIN.
An SMS lists your recent KCB M-Pesa transactions, such as deposits, withdrawals, loans and repayments.
How to Check Your Loan Limit
Go to KCB M-Pesa, select Loan, then the option to request a loan or check your limit. The menu shows the maximum you can borrow. Your limit changes over time based on your M-Pesa use and repayment history.
What to Check Before Borrowing Again
- Your outstanding balance. Make sure any previous loan is fully cleared.
- The due date. Paying late can hurt your limit and credit record.
- Your savings progress. If you have a Target Savings account, confirm you are on track.
- The fee for the new loan. It is shown before you confirm.
Getting a Full Statement
For a detailed record, for example when applying for a bank loan or reconciling your finances, contact KCB customer care or visit a KCB branch with your ID and ask for a KCB M-Pesa statement for the period you need. Your M-Pesa statement also shows every transfer between M-Pesa and KCB M-Pesa. Learn how to request it free in our guide to using M-Pesa and the M-Pesa statement guide on Business Radar.
When the Balance Looks Wrong
Savings are lower than expected. An overdue loan may have been recovered from your savings. Check the mini statement for a loan repayment entry.
The loan balance is higher than you borrowed. The balance includes the loan fee and any applicable charges. If you think there is an error, contact KCB with the dates and amounts.
My limit dropped. Limits can fall after late repayment or reduced M-Pesa activity.
Moving Money Between KCB M-Pesa and M-Pesa
From the KCB M-Pesa menu you can deposit from M-Pesa into savings and withdraw savings back to M-Pesa. These transfers show in both your KCB M-Pesa mini statement and your M-Pesa statement, which makes it easy to follow your money.
Protecting Your Credit Record
Lenders share repayment information with credit reference bureaus. Checking your KCB M-Pesa balance before the due date and repaying on time protects your record. If you want to see what lenders see, read our guide to checking your CRB status.
A Simple Monthly Routine
Set a reminder on your phone a week before each loan is due. On that day, check your KCB M-Pesa balance, confirm the amount owed and plan where the repayment will come from. Once a month, request a mini statement and compare it with your own notes of what you borrowed and saved. This takes only a few minutes and helps you catch mistakes, avoid late payments and see clearly whether borrowing is helping or becoming a habit. If you find you are borrowing every month, use the mini statement to see where the money went and adjust your budget.
Also check that the phone number linked to your account is the one you actively use, so you never miss repayment reminders sent by SMS.
