PSC Administrative Officers Examination Kenya: Essential Guide to Fees (KSh 3,500 + KSh 875 a Paper), Registration and Results

Updated 8 November 2026

Administrative officers in Kenya’s national government sit a Public Service Commission (PSC) examination as part of their career progression. The PSC administrative officers examination has its own fees, forms and document list, published in the Commission’s Citizen Service Charter. First-time candidates pay a basic fee of KSh 3,500 plus KSh 875 per paper through eCitizen and submit Form A. Referred candidates use Form B. Results are released within 60 days of the last paper. This guide sets out the details, along with the proficiency and legal metrology officers’ examinations listed alongside it.

Administrative Officers Examination KSh 3,500 KSh 875

Legal Metrology Officers Examination KSh 2,625 KSh 875

All fees are paid through eCitizen, and the eCitizen government copy receipt is one of the documents you submit.

First-time registration for the PSC administrative officers examination

For initial registration, the charter lists these steps and documents:

  1. Log in to eCitizen and apply.
  2. Pay the requisite fee through eCitizen.
  3. Submit the eCitizen government copy receipt, a duly filled Form A and a passport-size photo on a white background.
  4. Attach copies of your academic certificates, your letter of first appointment, your national ID card, and your induction certificate and paramilitary course certificate for administrative officers.

Missing the induction or paramilitary course certificate is a common reason applications stall. Get certified copies from your HR office early.

Referred candidates

If you were referred in some papers, the charter lists a separate registration. Log in to eCitizen, pay the fee, and submit the eCitizen government copy receipt, a duly filled Form B and a passport-size photo on a white background. The per-paper fee means you pay only for the papers you are re-sitting, plus the applicable basic fee as set in the notice.

Results and certificates

The charter commits the PSC to releasing results within 60 days of the date candidates sat the last paper. Candidates who pass all papers get their certificates within 60 days of the results. Both services are free. If you have not heard anything after those dates, the charter commits the Commission to answering letters within 5 working days and email or social media enquiries within 1 working day.

Budget examples for the PSC administrative officers examination

These worked examples apply the published fees. Confirm the number of papers in the current notice.

Scenario Calculation Total

Administrative officer sitting 6 papers 3,500 + (6 × 875) KSh 8,750
Proficiency exam, 3 papers 2,625 + (3 × 875) KSh 5,250
Legal metrology officer, 2 papers 2,625 + (2 × 875) KSh 4,375

The paper counts above are illustrations only, not the official number of papers in any examination.

Planning your PSC administrative officers examination timeline

Work backwards from the dates in the PSC notification. First, gather your documents: certified copies of academic certificates, your letter of first appointment, your national ID, and the induction and paramilitary course certificates. Ask your HR office for any copies you lack well before registration opens.

Next, create or update your eCitizen account so that your name matches your ID exactly. A mismatch can delay processing. Register and pay as soon as the window opens rather than on the last day, when eCitizen is often busy.

Then plan your study around the papers you are registered for.

After the exam, note the date of your last paper. If it was 10 March, for example, the charter’s 60-day commitment points to results by about 9 May. A certificate for those who pass all papers would follow within a further 60 days. This counting example only illustrates the charter timelines and is not an announced exam date.

Tips for candidates

  • Read the PSC notification and advert carefully: dates, centres and papers are set there.
  • Scan all documents clearly before you start the eCitizen application.
  • Keep the eCitizen receipt. It is a required document, not just proof of payment.
  • Use a recent photo with a plain white background.
  • Note the day of your last paper and count 60 days to know when results are due.
  • All PSC services in the charter are listed with their official fees. Do not pay anyone who offers to “guarantee” a pass or a result.
