SBM Bank Kenya is the Kenyan unit of Mauritius-based SBM Holdings. It entered Kenya by buying Fidelity Commercial Bank in 2017 and took over most of the former Chase Bank business in 2018, which is why some older customers still have Chase cheque books or paybill references. Nairobi has 17 SBM branches. The CBD has three (City Centre, Corner House and River Road). The rest are spread across Westlands, Parklands, Upper Hill, Kilimani, Karen, Gigiri, Kiambu Road, Mombasa Road, Industrial Area and Eastlands.

Which Nairobi Branch Should You Use?

• In the CBD: Corner House on Kimathi Street is on the ground floor and easy to walk into. City Centre is on the 6th floor of Prudential Building on Wabera Street. River Road serves traders in the downtown area.
• Westlands and Parklands: Westlands Square, Diamond Plaza on 4th Parklands Avenue and ABC Place on Waiyaki Way are all close together.
• Eastlands: Donholm, on Outering Road, is the only branch on the east side. The former Buru Buru branch was merged into it in October 2021.
• South and west: Karen, Hurlingham, Kilimani, Strathmore (on the university campus, Madaraka) and Upper Hill.
• North: Village Market in Gigiri and Windsor at Ridgeways Mall on Kiambu Road.
• Industrial zones: Industrial Area (Butere Road) and Sameer Business Park on Mombasa Road.

Branches That Have Closed or Merged

If you have an old branch name on your account documents, it may no longer exist. SBM merged these locations on 29 October 2021:

• Lavington branch, now served by ABC (ABC Place, Waiyaki Way).
• Buru Buru branch, now served by Donholm.
• Kimathi branch, now served by Corner House.
• SBM Xpress Limuru Road, now served by Diamond Plaza.
• SBM Xpress Ngong Road, now served by Kilimani (Adlife Plaza).

Accounts moved to the receiving branch automatically. You can still use any SBM branch in the country for everyday services.

Before You Visit a Branch

• Call the branch line first. Each branch has its own 0703 074 number, listed above. It is usually quicker than the main contact centre for questions about a specific branch.
• Carry your original ID or passport. You’ll need it for withdrawals over the counter, card replacement and account changes.
• Use a paybill for deposits. You can send money to an SBM account through M-Pesa paybill 552800, with the account number as the reference. Other banks’ numbers are in our full list of bank paybill numbers.
• Go early on Saturdays. Branches close at 1:00pm.
• Plan around holidays. All branches close on Sundays and public holidays.
