How to Pay Mayfair Premiums With M-Pesa
- Open M-Pesa and choose Lipa na M-Pesa, then Pay Bill.
- Enter business number 571454.
- For the account number, use your policy number or the reference on your debit note. Mayfair does not publish a set account format, so ask the customer line if you are unsure.
- Enter the amount and your M-Pesa PIN, then keep the confirmation SMS.
- If the payment does not reflect on your policy, email the M-Pesa message and your policy number to info@mayfair.co.ke.
Mayfair’s FAQ points out that, under the Insurance Act, premium has to be paid at the start of the cover. In other words, a policy is not in force until the premium is paid. Our guide to paying a paybill with M-Pesa explains how to avoid sending money to the wrong account.
How to Make a Claim With Mayfair
Mayfair’s FAQ gives the basic rule: notify the insurer or your agent as soon as possible, then fill in a claim form and send it with all supporting documents. The Claims page on its website lets you download claim forms by product category (personal, corporate, liability and construction) and upload a completed form. Where a form is not on the website, you can request it through the same page.
- Report early. Call +254 724 256 925 or +254 733 256 925, or email info@mayfair.co.ke, with your policy number.
- Report every motor accident. Mayfair says all accidents should be reported to the insurer however minor, especially where another party is involved.
- Get a police abstract for theft or road accidents. See how to get a police abstract.
- Download and fill in the claim form for your product from the Claims page.
- Attach supporting documents such as photos, repair estimates, the police abstract, your driving licence and logbook for motor claims.
- Upload the form on the Claims page or take it to a branch.

Useful Rules From Mayfair’s FAQ
- Policy period: policies are usually issued for one year. Shorter periods are possible at short-period premium rates, and some covers, such as contractors’ all risks, can run longer than a year.
- Write-offs: a car is usually written off when repairs would cost more than about 50% of its insured value, but the final decision is left to the insurer.
- No transfers: insurance cannot be transferred to a new owner. The buyer of your car, for example, needs their own policy.
- Pick-ups: a pick-up is classed as a commercial vehicle in the logbook, so it needs commercial motor insurance even if you use it privately.
- Excess: some policies deduct a set amount, the excess, from each claim. Check your schedule for the figure.
How to Complain to Mayfair Insurance
Mayfair’s Complaints and Dispute Resolution Procedure, written under the Insurance Regulatory Authority’s guidelines, sets out these steps:
- Complain in writing (letter, email or fax), by phone to a Mayfair staff member, or in person at an office.
- Give your name, address, policy number, claim number or ID number, and attach copies of relevant documents.
- Mayfair says it acknowledges complaints immediately or within five working days. If you get no acknowledgement in five working days, call the office to follow up.
- If the complaint cannot be resolved within ten working days, Mayfair says it will tell you so and keep you updated.
- If you are still not satisfied, you can escalate to the IRA Consumer Protection Division on 020 4996 000 or complaints@ira.go.ke (P.O. Box 43505-00100, Nairobi).
