Loans for salaried members

Wakulima Sacco has a separate set of products for salaried members linked to Wakulima Dairy:

  • Salary Loan: 4 to 7 times savings depending on the amount, repaid over 36 to 60 months at 12% a year. Guarantors are needed, and loans above KSh 300,000 need collateral.
  • Salary Advance, School Fees, Imarika and Jijenge Imara advances: up to 10 times savings, repaid within 6 months, with 5% charged on the amount advanced and at least 2 guarantors.

The Sacco’s business-loans page gives the Development Loan for salaried members at 12% a year, while the standalone Development Loan page says 14%. Ask the branch which rate applies to you.

What a Wakulima loan costs: an example

Here is our own estimate using a standard amortisation formula, not a Sacco quote. A KSh 200,000 Dairy Loan at 14% reducing balance over 24 months works out to about KSh 9,600 a month, or roughly KSh 30,500 in total interest. Add the 3% appraisal fee of KSh 6,000. A KSh 100,000 Kilimo Bora loan at 10% flat over 12 months costs KSh 10,000 in interest plus a KSh 3,000 fee.

How to qualify and apply

  1. Join Wakulima Commercial Sacco and build up non-withdrawable deposits, since most loan limits are a multiple of them.
  2. Keep your account active: the Development Loan looks at a year of regular deposits, salary or milk payments.
  3. Get guarantors who are members, or collateral for larger amounts.
  4. Visit the head office at Wakulima Building, Mukurwe-ini, or call 0700 146 398. The office opens 8:30 am to 4 pm on weekdays and 8:30 am to noon on Saturdays.
