What KESONIA pricing means for you
KESONIA (Kenya Shilling Overnight Interbank Average) is published daily by the Central Bank of Kenya. Banks that use it reset variable loan rates as the interbank rate moves, rather than waiting for a Central Bank Rate decision. If interbank rates rise, your Stanbic rate can rise even when the CBR stays the same, and the other way round. Ask Stanbic how often your rate resets and whether it changes your instalment or your loan term.

How to get a lower Stanbic loan rate
- Bank your salary with Stanbic; a known income history lowers the risk premium the bank charges you.
- Clear any CRB listing and keep existing loans and mobile borrowing up to date before you apply.
- Ask for the Total Cost of Credit statement, which shows the interest, facility fee, insurance and excise duty together, and compare it with at least two other banks.
- If you are offered a rate near the top of the range, ask what would move you down: a bigger deposit, a shorter term, a guarantor or security.
