How much does it cost to join a golf club in Kenya?

Most clubs charge a one-off entrance fee plus an annual subscription, and few publish their fees online. The table below uses the comparison HapaKenya published on December 4, 2025 from Karen Country Club’s AGM papers. These are entrance fees before Karen’s own increase; treat every figure as a guide and confirm with the club.

Club Couple entrance Single entrance Golf subscription (yearly)
Muthaiga Golf Club KSh 1,660,000 KSh 1,100,000 KSh 99,000
Karen Country Club (old rate) KSh 1,150,000 KSh 650,000 KSh 121,208
Royal Nairobi Golf Club KSh 1,050,000 KSh 800,000 KSh 96,236
Vet Lab Sports Club KSh 950,000 KSh 750,000 KSh 90,000
Sigona Golf Club KSh 825,000 KSh 690,000 KSh 77,095
Limuru Country Club KSh 492,000 KSh 410,000 KSh 48,000

Two updates since that table: Karen Country Club members then voted to raise single entrance to KSh 1.6 million and couple entrance to KSh 2.5 million (see Karen Country Club membership fees). Muthaiga’s own published application form lists KSh 980,000 entrance plus a KSh 20,000 deposit for a single member and KSh 60,000 a year; for couples it lists KSh 1,340,000 and KSh 99,000 a year (see Muthaiga Golf Club membership fees). Different categories explain some of the gap between sources.

Notable courses for visitors

  • Karen Country Club hosts the DP World Tour’s Magical Kenya Open, scheduled for February 18-21, 2027.
  • Muthaiga Golf Club hosted the Open from 2022 to 2025 and calls itself the “Home of Golf” in Kenya.
  • Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club, off Kiambu Road, has an 18-hole championship course of 7,277 yards at about 6,000 feet above sea level, according to the hotel, which says the ball flies further at that altitude. Windsor does not publish visitor green fees on its site; book through its reservations desk.
  • Vipingo Ridge on the north coast has the PGA Baobab Course. Membership is restricted to Vipingo Ridge homeowners, and visitors can pay green fees, according to the estate.
  • Great Rift Valley Golf Resort near Naivasha and Leisure Lodge in Diani combine golf with a holiday stay.

Playing as a visitor

Many clubs accept visitors on payment of green fees, sometimes only when signed in by a member or on certain days. We checked Nairobi visitor rates in our guide to golf green fees in Nairobi. To enter club competitions you will need an official handicap: see how to get a golf handicap in Kenya.

Corporate golf days

Most member clubs host corporate golf days, where a company books the course for a tournament with clients, staff or partners. Banks, insurers, car dealers and property developers use them to meet decision-makers in a relaxed setting. Clubs price these on request, usually per player plus catering, branding and prizes, so ask several clubs for a quote and check which days the course is free of member competitions. Booking three to six months ahead is wise around busy periods such as the Magical Kenya Open in February.

Choosing a club

  • Budget: entrance fees range from a few hundred thousand shillings to well over KSh 1 million in Nairobi.
  • Location and traffic: you will play more often at a club near home or work.
  • Proposers: top clubs need proposers who have been members for three years or more.
  • Family facilities: some clubs include swimming, tennis, gym and junior golf programmes.
  • Reciprocity: useful if you travel; Muthaiga says it reciprocates with over 10 clubs worldwide.
