That is a basic salary of KES 92,689, a house allowance of KES 50,000 and a salary market adjustment of KES 11,792. Commuter allowance is not paid because the office comes with official transport.

Effective date: 1 July 2023 (Gazette Notice No. 10350 of 9 August 2023, Table 1). SRC had set a further rise from 1 July 2024, but withdrew it in July 2024 because the National Treasury had no budget after the Finance Bill 2024 was withdrawn. The 2023/24 rates continue to apply. SRC’s gazette notices page shows no later review as of 14 Oct 2026.
Allowances and benefits
- Committee sitting allowance: chairperson KES 6,500 per sitting (max KES 104,000 a month), vice-chairperson KES 5,200 (max KES 83,200), member KES 3,900 (max KES 62,400)
- Motor vehicle reimbursement of KES 2,212,000 once per term for MCAs and the Deputy Speaker, plus a car maintenance allowance of KES 30,167 a month (Speaker: official car up to 2,000cc)
- Ward mileage at KES 77.35 per km for one weekly return trip, capped from KES 30,167 (Zone 1, up to 45 km) to KES 147,481 a month (Zone 6, 186 km and above)
- Special County Assembly Duty Allowance of KES 23,000–29,000 a month for whips, deputy leaders, committee chairs and vice-chairs, and the Speaker’s panel
- Medical cover: inpatient KES 3 million, outpatient KES 200,000
- Car loan and mortgage at 3%: Speaker KES 4M / 20M; MCAs and Deputy Speaker KES 2M / 3M (MCAs may access up to KES 5 million combined)
- Airtime: Speaker KES 10,000, MCA KES 5,000 a month
- Car grant and plenary sitting allowance are abolished
