After the application window closes, KUCCPS runs placement and releases results showing which course and institution each student has been offered. For many families, this is one of the most anticipated announcements of the year. This guide explains how to check your results, how to get your admission letter, what to do once placed and your options if you were not placed or do not like your offer.

When Results Are Released

KUCCPS announces results through official channels, including its website and social media, usually after the Ministry of Education releases a statement. Watch for the official announcement rather than rumours on social media.

How to Check Results on the Portal

  1. Open the official KUCCPS student portal.
  2. Log in with your KCSE index number, KCSE year and password.
  3. Go to the placement results section on your dashboard.
  4. Your placed programme and institution appear, if you were placed.
  5. Take a screenshot or print the page for your records.

Checking by SMS

KUCCPS has in past cycles allowed students to check results by SMS to an official shortcode, using their KCSE index number. If this option is available, KUCCPS publishes the number and format in its announcement. Use only the official shortcode, as fake numbers charge premium rates.

If the portal is slow on release day because many students are logging in at once, try again early in the morning or late at night. Your result will not change, so there is no need to panic.

Getting Your Admission Letter

Admission letters are issued by the institution, not by KUCCPS. Once you know where you were placed:

  1. Visit the institution’s official website and look for the admissions or new students section.
  2. Enter your index number or details to download the admission letter.
  3. Read the reporting date, fees structure, documents to bring and accommodation details.

What to Do After Being Placed

  • Apply for funding. Government sponsored students apply for scholarships and loans through the Higher Education Financing portal. Read our HELB guide to understand loan repayment later.
  • Prepare documents: KCSE results slip, birth certificate, ID if you have one, passport photos and medical forms.
  • Plan your budget for fees, accommodation, transport and upkeep.
  • Report on time. Late reporting without permission can cost you the place.

If You Were Not Placed

Not being placed usually means your cluster weight was below the cut-off for all your choices, or you did not meet subject requirements. You can usually apply during the revision window that follows. Choose programmes with cut-offs closer to your points, and consider diplomas or certificates that lead to degrees later. Check our KUCCPS cut-off points page for guidance.

Remember that each revision cycle has a deadline, and late applications are not considered. Keep checking official KUCCPS announcements so you do not miss the window.

If You Want a Different Course

KUCCPS also allows inter-institution transfers within set periods, subject to availability and meeting the requirements. Apply through the portal and wait for approval before changing plans. Do not abandon your current offer until the transfer is approved.

Questions Parents Often Ask

Is a private university placement through KUCCPS still government sponsored? Yes, if you were placed through KUCCPS, you are a government sponsored student, though fees and funding are worked out under the current higher education funding model.

Should we accept a course the student did not want? Discuss it calmly. A transfer may be possible later, and some programmes share first year units. Rejecting a placement without a plan can leave a student waiting a whole year.

What if the reporting date clashes with other plans? Contact the institution’s admissions office early. Some allow deferment for valid reasons, but you must ask formally and get written approval.

How do we budget? Use the fees structure from the admission letter, then add accommodation, food, transport, books and personal expenses for a realistic monthly figure.

Thinking Ahead to Careers

Use the period before reporting to research careers linked to your course. Look at job adverts on JobinKenya to understand what employers ask for, and consider short courses or skills that will make you stand out after graduation.
