Kilimall says its sale will include daily flash sales at 10am, 4pm and 8pm with discounts of up to 50%, brand offers of up to 15% on phone makers such as Xiaomi, Infinix, TECNO and Samsung, an early-bird voucher pack worth KSh 2,330 (a KSh 100 shipping voucher plus KSh 2,230 in category vouchers, with minimum-spend rules), and an app-only lucky draw. Voucher conditions apply, so read them before you count on the saving.
How to spot fake Black Friday discounts
The most common trick is to raise the “was” price before the sale so the discount looks bigger. Protect yourself:
- Record prices now. Screenshot the price of anything you plan to buy in early November, with the date. If the “was” price on Black Friday is higher than what you saw, the discount is inflated.
- Compare across shops. Check the same model number on two or three sites and in a physical shop.
- Check the seller, not just the platform. On marketplaces, most items are sold by third-party sellers. Look at seller ratings, how long they have sold, and reviews with photos. Our guide on how to check Jumia, Kilimall and Instagram sellers shows what to look for.
- Read voucher rules. Many vouchers need a minimum spend, apply only to some categories, or expire within days.
- Be wary of countdown pressure. “Only 2 left” and timers are designed to stop you comparing.
- Check the exact model. Phones and TVs are sold in variants; a cheap “same” phone may have less storage or be a different region’s model.
Your rights under Kenyan law
Kenya’s Competition Act, 2010 bans false or misleading representations to consumers, including false claims about the price of goods, and unconscionable conduct. The Consumer Protection Act, 2012 also protects buyers in distance and online sales. If a shop advertises a discount it did not really give, or refuses to honour an advertised price or a return policy, you can complain first to the shop and then to the Competition Authority of Kenya (CAK), which handles consumer complaints. Keep screenshots of the advert, the order, and the payment.
Paying safely on Black Friday
- Pay through the platform’s own checkout. Never send M-Pesa to a seller’s personal number from a WhatsApp or Instagram chat.
- Pay on delivery where offered for expensive items, and open and check the item before accepting.
- If you pay the wrong M-Pesa number, act fast; see how to reverse an M-Pesa transaction.
- Use a card with a low limit, or a virtual card, for foreign sites.
Returns and refunds
Each platform sets its own return window and rules, and some categories (underwear, opened cosmetics, some electronics) cannot be returned. Before you pay, open the shop’s return policy and note the number of days, who pays return delivery, and whether refunds go back to M-Pesa or as store credit. Report a faulty item within the window, with photos and the unboxing if possible.
What to buy and what to skip
Black Friday discounts in Kenya tend to be strongest on phones, small electronics, home appliances, fashion and beauty, which are the categories Kilimall lists for 2026. Big-ticket items such as TVs and fridges are worth buying only after you have tracked the price for a few weeks. If you run a shop yourself, Black Friday is a good moment to sell online with M-Pesa checkout.
