Loanees often ask why they have paid in full but cannot find their clearance certificate.

Based on questions students and loanees sent to HELB’s official X account (@HELBpage) and HELB’s own replies, checked on 14 October 2026. Questions are paraphrased.

Clearance certificate (loan fully repaid)

HELB’s site says that on completing repayment you place a request through the HELB portal and the certificate is sent upon approval, or you can visit a Huduma Centre or HELB’s main office at Anniversary Towers, ground floor. On X, HELB directs loanees to the portal’s Self-Serve → Clearance Certificate option, and says it notifies you by email once the certificate is approved and ready to download. A digital copy is on the portal and a physical copy at Anniversary Towers.

Compliance certificate (still repaying)

A compliance certificate shows you are loan-compliant through active repayment. HELB’s site says it can be downloaded from the portal if you have been consistently repaying; otherwise email contactcentre@helb.co.ke or call 0711 052 000.
