Based on questions students and loanees sent to HELB’s official X account (@HELBpage) and HELB’s own replies, checked on 14 October 2026. Questions are paraphrased.

What HELB is offering

HELB says you can get up to 80% waiver on outstanding penalties if you repay your loan in a lump sum, and asks loanees to DM it to start. It describes it as “an ongoing 80% penalty waiver on the outstanding penalty for lumpsum payment and loan clearance”.

Penalties only – not interest

HELB has been explicit: the waiver applies to penalties only, not interest. If you have no penalties and want to clear your loan, you pay the full balance.

How to apply

DM HELB your ID number and email address; it computes the amount and replies by email.

Frequently asked questions

Does the waiver cover interest?

No. HELB says it covers outstanding penalties only.

How do I get my waiver amount?

DM HELB your ID number and email; it computes the lump-sum figure and emails you.
