Money customers pay into Pochi la Biashara sits in your business wallet until you use it. You can pay suppliers, send money or buy airtime directly from Pochi, and when you need cash you can withdraw at any M-Pesa agent. This guide shows the withdrawal steps, explains the fees and gives tips to keep withdrawal costs low.

How to Withdraw at an M-Pesa Agent

  1. Confirm the agent has enough cash for the amount you need.
  2. Dial *334# and select Pochi la Biashara.
  3. Choose Withdraw Cash.
  4. Enter the agent number and the store number displayed at the agent.
  5. Enter the amount.
  6. Enter your M-Pesa PIN and confirm.
  7. Collect the cash once you and the agent both receive the confirmation SMS.

What It Costs

Receiving money into Pochi is free for the business. When you cash out at an agent, the standard M-Pesa agent withdrawal tariff applies: the minimum withdrawal is KSh 50, a KSh 50 to KSh 100 withdrawal costs KSh 11, and the fee rises in bands to KSh 309 for the largest amounts. Use the calculator below to see the fee for any amount.

Tips to Save on Withdrawal Fees

  • Withdraw less often, in larger amounts. Several small withdrawals usually cost more in total than one larger one.
  • Pay suppliers directly from Pochi if they accept M-Pesa, so you do not need cash at all.
  • Pay bills from Pochi rather than withdrawing and paying in cash.
  • Check the fee band. Sometimes withdrawing slightly less keeps you in a lower band.

Moving Money to Your Personal Wallet

You can also move money from Pochi to your personal M-Pesa through the Pochi menu. This is useful when paying yourself a weekly amount. Keep business money in Pochi and only move what you plan to spend personally, so you can track profit accurately.

Safety at the Agent

Count your cash before leaving the counter and check that the amount in the confirmation SMS matches what you asked for. Cover the keypad when entering your PIN and never tell the agent your PIN. For large amounts, use a busy agent in a public place, and avoid carrying more cash than you need for the day. If a withdrawal goes wrong, keep the transaction code and call Safaricom on 100 or 200.

What Your Customers Pay

Safaricom set promotional rates for customers paying into Pochi la Biashara that run until 31 October 2026. Under them, payments up to KSh 200 are free for the customer, and larger payments carry a fee that is capped at KSh 50 for payments from KSh 2,501 up to KSh 250,000. Safaricom had not announced the rates that apply after 31 October at the time of writing. The full table is in our Pochi la Biashara charges guide.

A Worked Example

Say a kiosk owner collects KSh 3,000 a day through Pochi and withdraws it every evening. That is about 30 withdrawals a month, each paying the agent fee for a KSh 3,000 withdrawal. If the owner instead pays the supplier directly from Pochi and withdraws only once a week for wages and cash purchases, the number of withdrawal fees falls from about 30 to four or five a month. Check the exact band figures in the calculator above; the saving comes from paying the fee fewer times.

Limits to Know

  • Minimum agent withdrawal: KSh 50
  • Maximum per transaction: KSh 250,000
  • Daily transaction limit: KSh 500,000

For a large withdrawal, call the agent first. Many small agents do not keep that much cash, and a failed attempt wastes time.

Is Pochi Right for Your Business?

Pochi suits sole traders who want to separate business money without paperwork. As sales grow, a till or paybill gives you statements, staff operators and other business features. Compare the options in our guide on Pochi, till or paybill. If you run an M-Pesa shop yourself, our M-Pesa agent shop profit calculator shows what agents earn from withdrawals.
