The 2026 Interim Dividend Explained

KCB announced its half-year results on 12 August 2026. Profit before tax rose 20.8% to KSh 49.3 billion and total assets grew 16.8% to KSh 2.3 trillion. On the back of that, the board declared an interim dividend of KSh 3.00 per share, which KCB described as a 50% increase on the KSh 2.00 regular interim paid a year earlier. The total distribution is KSh 9.64 billion.

  • Who gets it: shareholders on the register at the close of business on 2 September 2026. Buying after that date does not qualify you for this payout.
  • When it pays: 10 November 2026, according to KCB’s dividends page.
  • What is not included: unlike 2025, KCB has not announced a special dividend alongside this interim.

Why 2025 Was a Record Year

For the year to December 2025, KCB reported a profit after tax of KSh 68.4 billion, up 11%, with total assets at KSh 2.15 trillion even after selling National Bank of Kenya. The board added special dividends at both the interim and final stage, bringing the year’s payout to KSh 7.00 per share and KSh 22 billion in total. That works out to roughly 32% of the year’s net profit (KSh 22 billion divided by KSh 68.4 billion).

KCB’s stated dividend policy allows it to distribute up to 50% of net earnings, so there is room in the policy for higher payouts, but the board also has to keep capital for growth across its regional banks. For context on how its earnings stack up against rivals, see how KCB, Equity and Co-op Bank compared in H1 2026.

What a KCB Dividend Is Worth on Your Shares

Dividends in Kenya are paid net of withholding tax. Resident individual shareholders normally have 5% deducted and non-residents 15%. Here is what the recent payouts mean for someone holding 1,000 KCB shares as a Kenyan resident:

Payout Gross on 1,000 shares Less 5% withholding tax Net received
2026 interim (KSh 3.00) KSh 3,000 KSh 150 KSh 2,850
2025 full year (KSh 7.00) KSh 7,000 KSh 350 KSh 6,650
2024 full year (KSh 3.00) KSh 3,000 KSh 150 KSh 2,850

To work out other amounts, multiply your shares by the dividend per share, then take off the tax. Our withholding tax calculator helps if you want to check the deduction.

We don’t quote a dividend yield here because it depends on the share price on the day you buy. To get yours, divide the dividend per share by the price you paid and multiply by 100.

Who Owns KCB and How Many Shares Exist

KCB’s shareholder profile as at 30 June 2026 shows 3,213,462,815 shares held by 201,911 shareholders.

Holder group Shareholders Share of company
National Treasury 1 19.76%
Local institutional investors 6,459 46.74%
Local individual investors 194,775 24.73%
Foreign investors 676 8.77%

The only holders above 5% are the National Treasury (19.76%) and the National Social Security Fund (10.20%). That means a large slice of every KCB dividend flows back to the government and to NSSF members.

How KCB Dividends Are Paid

  1. Hold shares in a CDS account before the book closure date. If you don’t have one yet, read how to buy shares on the NSE.
  2. Keep your payment details current with the share registrar, either your bank account or an M-Pesa number where the registrar offers it.
  3. Wait for the payment date. Payments go out on or about the date KCB announces, net of withholding tax.
  4. Chase missing payments early. Dividends that go unclaimed for years can end up with the Unclaimed Financial Assets Authority. Here’s how to check and claim unclaimed dividends.
