Best Online Shopping Sites in Kenya 2026: Delivery, Payment and Returns Compared

Updated 28 October 2026

For most people in Kenya, Jumia and Kilimall are the two general online shopping sites to start with, while Carrefour and Naivas are the better choice for groceries delivered the same day. Overseas sites such as AliExpress, Shein and Amazon can be cheaper on some items, but delivery takes weeks and you may pay KRA duty when the parcel lands. This guide compares the main options on what actually matters: how you pay, how fast delivery is, and what happens when you need to return something.

All delivery and return rules below come from each company’s own help pages as of October 2026. Policies change during big sales like Black Friday, so confirm on the product page before you order.

Jumia Kenya: Widest Choice and Fastest Express Delivery

Jumia is the biggest general marketplace in Kenya. It sells its own stock and lets third-party sellers list on the site, so the same phone or blender can appear from several sellers at different prices.

Delivery

Items with the Jumia Express logo are stored in Jumia’s warehouse and ship fastest. According to Jumia, an Express order placed before 6pm gets its first delivery attempt the next day in Nairobi, Kiambu and some parts of Kajiado and Machakos. In parts of Uasin Gishu, Kisumu, Mombasa and Nakuru the first attempt is within two business days, and the rest of the country gets an attempt within two to three working days. Delivery times count business days only and exclude Sundays.

You can pick a door delivery or collect from a pickup station, which is usually cheaper. See our lists of Jumia pickup stations in Kiambu and Jumia pickup stations in Kajiado.

Payment and returns

JumiaPay accepts mobile money and cards. Jumia’s customer protection says that if you paid through JumiaPay, you are covered at delivery, and after you accept the order you are still covered for 7 days if the product does not match its description, is fake or does not work properly. Jumia says approved refunds go back to your mobile money account within 48 hours, at 100% with no transfer fee.

Watch out for

  • Seller ratings. A low-rated seller on a big marketplace is still a risk, so read recent reviews.
  • Items without the Express logo, which ship from the seller and take longer.
  • Items with their own return rules, such as opened cosmetics or bedding, which sellers often exclude.

Kilimall: Lower Prices if You Can Wait

Kilimall launched in June 2014 and has built its name on low prices, especially for phone accessories, small electronics and household goods. The key thing to understand is that Kilimall has three shipping models, and the one attached to your item decides how long you wait and whether you can return it.

  1. Local warehouse (FBK) items ship from Kilimall’s own warehouse in Kenya. Kilimall says shipping usually takes 2 to 7 workdays, with free returns within 7 days and a full refund for damaged or lost parcels.
  2. Local seller items ship from sellers’ warehouses in Kenyan towns and take about 7 to 15 workdays. They also come with free returns within 7 days.
  3. Overseas seller items are flown in from sellers abroad and take about 30 to 40 workdays. You can ask for a refund before dispatch, or if the seller takes more than 7 days to dispatch. After dispatch, Kilimall does not accept refunds or exchanges for non-quality issues.

Kilimall makes only two delivery attempts, and an uncollected order is returned after 7 days. Resending it costs a shipping fee. Track your order in the app under Account, My Order, View Logistics.

Carrefour and Naivas: Best for Groceries

For food and household shopping, supermarket apps beat the general marketplaces on speed. Carrefour Kenya runs online shopping on its website and app. Its help centre lists Visa and Mastercard cards, iPay M-Pesa and M-Pesa on delivery as payment options, and its customer care line is 0800 221 322.

Naivas Online offers a choice of 60-minute, 90-minute or scheduled delivery in the areas it covers, with customer care on 0111 184 200. Both chains price online items close to their shelf prices, and both run app-only promotions, so compare a full basket rather than one item.

Delivery fees and minimum order values for both supermarkets depend on your area and the delivery speed, and they change with promotions. Check the amount on the checkout screen before you pay.

Buying From Overseas Sites

AliExpress, Shein and Amazon can offer items you will not find locally. The trade-offs are clear:

  • Time. Expect weeks, not days, and longer during November and December when parcel volumes spike.
  • Tax. Imported goods may attract KRA import duty, VAT and other levies, collected by the courier or Posta before release. Our guide to KRA duty, postal and courier charges on goods from abroad explains how this is worked out.
  • Returns. Sending an item back abroad usually costs more than the item. Treat overseas orders as final unless the site offers free local returns.
  • Payment. Most overseas sites want a card. A virtual card from your bank or mobile money provider keeps your main card details off foreign sites.

How to Choose the Right Site

  1. Need it tomorrow in Nairobi? Filter for Jumia Express items, or use a supermarket app for groceries.
  2. Price matters more than speed? Compare Kilimall and Jumia, but check which shipping model the item uses.
  3. Buying a phone or laptop? Prefer items shipped from the platform’s own warehouse, which come with clearer return rules, and keep the box and receipt.
  4. Item only sold abroad? Add duty and courier charges to the price before you decide.

Safe Payment Tips

  • Pay inside the official app or website. Never send M-Pesa to a personal number because a seller asks you to.
  • Check that a Lipa na M-Pesa till or paybill shows the company’s name before you confirm. Our guide to paying a paybill shows what to look for.
  • Open and test the item in front of the rider where pay on delivery allows it.
  • Screenshot the product page and order confirmation in case of a dispute.

Shopping through Instagram, TikTok or WhatsApp sellers carries more risk. Read how to check online sellers before you pay before you pay anyone you found on social media.
