Karen Country Club Membership Fees 2026: New Entrance Fees and How to Join

Karen Country Club membership fees

Updated 1 November 2026

Karen Country Club membership fees went up sharply after members voted at the club’s annual general meeting in late 2025: the entrance fee for a single full member rose from KSh 650,000 to KSh 1,600,000, and for a couple from KSh 1,150,000 to KSh 2,500,000, as reported by HapaKenya on December 4, 2025. Karen Country Club membership fees are now the highest reported in Kenya. Annual subscriptions stayed at KSh 121,208 for golf and KSh 55,984 for social membership. The club does not publish its fee table on its website, so treat these as the latest reported figures and confirm with the Membership Office before you pay.

Annual subscriptions

  • Golf subscription: KSh 121,208 a year.
  • Social subscription: KSh 55,984 a year.

Under the club’s older published schedule, golf was a separate entry on top of the club entrance fee (KSh 150,000 single and KSh 300,000 couple for full members). The 2025 AGM report did not say whether that golf entry fee changed, so ask the club whether a separate golf section fee still applies to you.

How Karen compares with other Nairobi clubs

The same HapaKenya report compared entrance fees across clubs before the rise. At the old rates Karen’s single fee (KSh 650,000) was below Muthaiga Golf Club and Royal Nairobi Golf Club; at KSh 1.6 million it is now among the most expensive in the country. Muthaiga Golf Club’s own application form lists KSh 980,000 plus a KSh 20,000 deposit for a single member, which we break down in our guide to Muthaiga Golf Club membership fees.

How to join Karen Country Club

The club’s 2026 membership page sets out a proposal and ballot process:

  1. Two sponsors. You must be introduced by a proposer and a seconder who have each been members for at least three years and are in good standing. Each member may propose or second only two candidates a year.
  2. No work colleagues as proposer. The club does not accept applications where the proposer is a work colleague or business associate, though a colleague may second you.
  3. Letter and CV. Your proposer submits an introduction letter and your CV to the Membership Office or the General Manager’s office.
  4. Proposal form. The proposer, seconder and candidate complete a proposal form with current passport photos.
  5. Review. The balloting committee reviews the form, and the club gives feedback to your proposer.
  6. Pay and start balloting. Successful candidates pay the fees and begin balloting. During this period you get a temporary card to use club facilities, but you cannot sign in guests.
  7. Ballot sessions. You must attend at least two balloting meetings. Your proposer introduces you at the first.

Balloting rules worth knowing

  • Dress is formal: jackets and ties for men, interview-style formal wear for women. Improperly dressed candidates are not allowed to progress.
  • Exchanging business cards during balloting is discouraged.
  • Your proposer should not answer questions on your behalf.
  • A proposer cannot bring more than one set of candidates to a balloting meeting.

Why Karen Country Club matters to golfers

Karen hosted the 2026 Magical Kenya Open on the DP World Tour (won by Casey Jarvis, prize fund US$2.7 million) and is listed by the DP World Tour as the venue again for February 18 to 21, 2027. See our Magical Kenya Open 2027 guide.

Budgeting for membership

For a couple joining as golfers, the first-year bill at reported rates is at least KSh 2.5 million in entrance fees plus subscriptions, before any golf section fee, deposit, caddies, food and drink. Many members pay from savings or investments rather than a loan; if you are planning a large outlay, our guide to dollar money market funds in Kenya covers where to park cash meanwhile.
