Sun King Kenya sells solar lanterns, solar home systems, solar inverter systems and smartphones either for cash or on its EasyBuy pay-as-you-go plan: you pay a deposit, take the product home and pay the rest in instalments over one to two years, entering an unlock code after each payment. On its Kenyan website, smartphones start from a KSh 2,149 deposit and KSh 55 to KSh 80 a day. If you stop paying, the product switches off until the next payment, and Sun King can repossess it after repeated missed payments.

Sun King Kenya phone prices on EasyBuy
Sun King lists six smartphones on its Kenyan site. Totals are our sums of the published deposit plus daily payment for 364 days; Sun King does not publish a cash price on the same page, so the premium over cash cannot be calculated from the site alone.

Sun King solar on EasyBuy
Sun King’s Kenyan range covers three groups:
- Solar lanterns: portable lights with USB charging for basic phones.
- Solar home systems (HomePlus range): rooftop systems for lights, phone charging and DC appliances, from the basic HomePlus to HomePlus Max bundles with a 24, 32 or 43-inch HD TV, radio or torch. Sun King says the batteries are built for a 10-year lifespan with typical daily use and the systems carry a two-year warranty.
- Solar inverter systems (PowerPlay and PowerHub): hybrid systems that can run normal AC appliances and charge from solar or the grid, aimed at homes and businesses facing blackouts.
Solar prices are not listed on the product pages; Sun King quotes after a call or shop visit, and says financing terms depend on a credit assessment, system size and payment period. Free installation is included.
How Sun King EasyBuy works
- Apply. Sun King says you need your national ID and can qualify in about 20 minutes after a call with an adviser, with no collateral, guarantor or proof of income.
- Pay the deposit and take the product home; solar systems are installed for free.
- Pay instalments by mobile money or cash. For solar, Sun King describes weekly payments; phones are priced per day.
- Enter the code. Each payment produces a code you key into the product to keep it working.
- Own it. When the contract is complete, the product is unlocked permanently. You can also pay off early at a discounted rate by contacting Sun King.
What if you miss a Sun King payment?
Sun King’s FAQ says that if payments are delayed, the EasyBuy technology disables the system until the next payment is made, and if successive payments are not made, Sun King can repossess the equipment. If you paid but the product stays locked, Sun King asks customers to contact support immediately to reconcile the payment.
