You can study for the KASNEB Certified Public Accountants (CPA) exams fully online in Kenya, with live evening classes on Zoom, recorded lessons and revision kits. Online tuition is generally cheaper than physical classes: two Nairobi colleges that publish their prices charge KSh 4,500 and KSh 5,200 per paper online. Tuition is only part of the bill, though, because KASNEB’s own registration and exam fees are paid separately. This guide explains how online CPA classes work, what they cost, and how to pick a provider that suits you, rather than ranking colleges we have not tested.

How the CPA course is structured

The CPA qualification has three levels plus a practical paper:

  • Foundation: Financial Accounting, Communication Skills, Introduction to Law and Governance, Economics, Quantitative Analysis, and Information Communication Technology.
  • Intermediate: Company Law, Financial Management, Financial Reporting and Analysis, Auditing and Assurance, Management Accounting, and Public Finance and Taxation.
  • Advanced: Leadership and Management, Advanced Financial Reporting and Analysis, Advanced Financial Management, Advanced Taxation, Advanced Auditing and Assurance, and either Advanced Management Accounting or Advanced Public Financial Management.
  • Practical: Business Data Analytics.

KASNEB holds exams three times a year, in April, August and December. To register you need KCSE C+ or an equivalent, a KASNEB diploma, or another recognised diploma or degree. Exemptions are decided by KASNEB, not by the college, so get an official exemption assessment before you pay tuition for papers you might not need to sit.

KASNEB fees you pay on top of tuition

These are the CPA charges payable to KASNEB, as listed in its current fee schedule and reproduced by exam guides. Pay them through the KASNEB student portal at online.kasneb.or.ke, never through a college or agent.

Fee Amount (KSh)
Registration 7,500
Annual registration renewal 2,000
Reactivation of lapsed registration 4,000
Exam booking, Foundation (per paper) 1,400
Exam booking, Intermediate (per paper) 2,400
Exam booking, Advanced (per paper) 3,600
Business Data Analytics practical paper 7,500
Exemption, Foundation (per paper) 2,500
Exemption, Intermediate (per paper) 3,500
Exemption, Advanced (per paper) 4,500

KASNEB gives persons with disability a 25 per cent discount on the registration fee if they attach their NCPWD card, and charges a deferment fee of 15 per cent of the total booking fees if you postpone a sitting. Confirm the figures on KASNEB’s fee structures page before paying, since they are reviewed from time to time.

What online CPA tuition costs

Few colleges publish prices, which makes comparison hard. Two that do:

College Online tuition Other published details
Jolearn Training College (KTDA Farmers Building, Moi Avenue, Nairobi) KSh 4,500 per paper Physical classes KSh 6,000 per paper or KSh 18,000 for three; payable in two instalments
RCM Online College (Stanbank House, Moi Avenue, Nairobi) KSh 5,200 per unit for most KASNEB units Business Data Analytics KSh 10,000; live Zoom classes 6pm to 8pm on weekdays plus Saturday labs; recordings and a mobile app

These are listed as examples of what published prices look like, not as recommendations. Many accredited colleges and universities offer online CPA classes, and prices change each sitting. At these rates, tuition for a full level of six papers comes to roughly KSh 27,000 to KSh 31,200 before KASNEB’s fees.

How to choose an online CPA class

  1. Check accreditation. KASNEB keeps a public list of accredited training institutions on its website. Search for the college by name and confirm it is listed for CPA tuition.
  2. Ask how classes are delivered. Live classes let you ask questions; recordings help if you work shifts. The best set-up for most working students has both, with recordings posted the same day.
  3. Check the timetable against your job. Evening classes usually run after 6pm. Make sure they finish early enough for you to revise.
  4. Ask about materials. Find out whether notes, revision kits and past papers are included in the fee or sold separately.
  5. Look at data needs. Live video uses a lot of bundles. Colleges with downloadable lessons save money and work during power cuts.
  6. Get the full cost in writing. Ask for a quote for the papers you will sit this cycle, the payment dates, and what happens if you defer.
  7. Be wary of pass-rate claims. Ask how a college calculates any pass rate it advertises, and treat “pass in one sitting” slogans as marketing.

Making online study work

Online learners pass when they treat classes like a timetable rather than a library. Attend live sessions where possible, do the weekly questions, and sit timed past papers in the last month before the exam. KASNEB advises students to take only as many papers as they can prepare for properly. Several colleges suggest three papers per sitting for people in full-time work.
