Every job at the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) is applied for online through one system: the KRA e-recruitment portal at erecruitment.kra.go.ke. You cannot apply by post, by email or by dropping a CV at Times Tower. This guide explains how the portal works, step by step, what KRA asks for in its adverts, which documents you need before you start, and how to avoid the fake KRA job offers that circulate every time the taxman advertises. The steps below follow KRA’s own published application guidelines on its careers page and in its recent adverts.

What the KRA recruitment portal is

The portal is KRA’s online applicant system. KRA says it employs more than 9,000 people across the country, and every external vacancy, from graduate trainee to chief manager, is posted there. Short adverts also run in newspapers and on government job notice boards, but they always send you back to the careers page at kra.go.ke/careers for the full job description and to erecruitment.kra.go.ke to apply.

Inside the portal, your account is called the Applicant Cockpit. From there you build one candidate profile, which KRA reuses for every job you apply for, and you search and apply for open vacancies. Because the profile is reused, it is worth filling it in carefully once rather than rushing it on the closing day.

Step 1: Register an account

  1. Go to erecruitment.kra.go.ke/login and click the Register button.
  2. Use a personal email address, not a work email. KRA’s adverts say this specifically.
  3. Fill in your details and choose a username and password.
  4. KRA sends an email with a link to confirm your address. Click it to finish registering.

If the confirmation email does not arrive, KRA advises you to refresh your inbox and check spam first. If it still does not come, KRA’s careers page directs queries to its HR support address, isupporthr@kra.go.ke. Some adverts also list kracareers@kra.go.ke for application problems.

Step 2: Log in and build your candidate profile

  1. Return to erecruitment.kra.go.ke/login, enter your username and password and click Log in.
  2. The Applicant Cockpit opens. Click the Candidate Profile tab, then My Profile.
  3. Work through each section: personal details, education, professional qualifications, work experience and referees.
  4. Attach your documents. KRA’s 2026 advert asks for attachments in PDF format, so scan certificates as PDFs before you start.
  5. Finish on the Overview and Release tab and tick the check box to confirm the profile is complete. If you skip this box the profile is not released and you cannot apply.

Have these ready as PDFs: your national ID, KCSE certificate, degree or diploma certificates and transcripts, professional certificates (for example CPA or a professional body membership), and a current CV. Our checklist of documents needed for job applications in Kenya covers how to get each one.

Step 3: Find a vacancy and apply

  1. In the Applicant Cockpit, click Employment Opportunities.
  2. Under Job Search, click Start to list all open vacancies.
  3. Click a job to read the full description, duties and requirements.
  4. Click Apply at the top of the posting and complete every mandatory field.
  5. Read and accept the Data Privacy Statement, then click Send Application Now.

Applications close at a set date and time, usually 23:59 on the closing day. The portal can slow down near the deadline, so apply a few days early. Only shortlisted candidates are contacted, so not hearing back usually means you were not shortlisted.

What KRA asks for in its adverts

Requirements change with each role, but KRA’s recent adverts show the pattern. In August 2025 KRA advertised 200 graduate trainee posts (reference GT/8/25) with a closing date of 8 September 2025. That advert, as published by KRA and reposted by the Institution of Engineers of Kenya, asked for:

Requirement Graduate trainee advert, August 2025
Citizenship and age Kenyan youth under 35 years on the closing date
Degree A first degree in business, law, social sciences, ICT, engineering, science, health or information management (a long list of named courses was given)
KCSE Mean grade of at least C+, with at least C+ in English or Kiswahili and in Mathematics
Terms Two year mandatory training programme, then permanent and pensionable
Pay As per the KRA salary structure (no figure published)

Senior roles, such as the chief manager posts KRA advertised in 2025, ask for many years of relevant experience and professional membership instead. KRA’s March 2026 advert ran with a closing date of 23 March 2026. KRA does not publish a fixed calendar, so watch the careers page and the government job boards through the year. You can also track public sector adverts, including KRA, on jobinkenya.co.ke.

Chapter Six documents for successful candidates

If you are picked, KRA asks you to show you meet the integrity requirements in Chapter Six of the Constitution. The 2026 advert lists five documents:

These take days or weeks to process, so start early if you are applying for a KRA job.

KRA never charges a fee

Every KRA advert carries the same warning: KRA does not charge any fee at any stage of recruitment, whether for application, shortlisting, interviews or an offer. Anyone asking you to pay to be shortlisted, to “secure” a slot or for an interview is a fraudster. KRA also warns that presenting fake certificates is a criminal offence and that canvassing leads to disqualification. Apply only through erecruitment.kra.go.ke, and treat WhatsApp groups or agents promising KRA jobs with suspicion.

Common problems and how to fix them

  • No confirmation email: check spam, wait a few minutes, then email isupporthr@kra.go.ke from the address you registered with.
  • Apply button not working: usually the profile was not released. Go back to Overview and Release and tick the completion box.
  • Upload fails: convert files to PDF and keep each file small.
  • Forgot password: use the Forgot your password link on the login page.
