Applications are accepted online only through the Centre’s website, www.frc.go.ke.

This story looks at what the hiring tells us about the FRC’s direction: where the posts are concentrated, why a unit that tracks suspicious money is building up its analyst and technology teams, and what it means for Kenya’s anti-money laundering push. If you want the full list of roles, grades and step-by-step application instructions, read our sister site’s guide: FRC Recruitment 2026: 32 Vacancies and How to Apply.

What the FRC does

The FRC is set up under Section 21 of the Proceeds of Crime and Anti-Money Laundering Act (POCAMLA), No. 9 of 2009. Its principal objective is to help identify the proceeds of crime and combat money laundering, terrorism financing and proliferation financing. Banks, Saccos, mobile money providers, forex bureaus, insurers, lawyers, real estate agents, casinos and other “reporting institutions” must file suspicious transaction reports and large cash transaction reports with the Centre. FRC analysts study those reports and pass intelligence to investigators such as the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the Assets Recovery Agency and the Kenya Revenue Authority.

In plain terms, when a bank flags an odd transfer or a property buyer pays a large sum in cash, the report goes to the FRC. The quality of Kenya’s response to financial crime depends heavily on how many people the Centre has to read, link and act on that data.

Where the 32 posts are

The advert is weighted towards frontline analysis rather than management. According to the official list:

  • Financial intelligence officers: 10 of the 32 posts are Financial Intelligence Officer II roles at grade 8. Four are in Operational Analysis, four in Compliance and Regulation, one in Technical Capacity Development and one in Data Modelling and Analysis.
  • Technology: three ICT Officer II posts, plus an Assistant Director for Digital Transformation and Information Systems.
  • Leadership: a Director of Compliance and Technical Capacity Development (grade 2) and three Deputy Directors for Operational Analysis, Finance and Accounts, and External Relations (grade 3).
  • Support functions: legal services, corporate communications, human resources, security, supply chain, finance, internal audit, planning and office administration.

Put together, 14 of the 32 posts (the ten intelligence officers, three ICT officers and the digital transformation lead) sit directly in analysis and technology. That is the clearest signal in the advert: the Centre is adding capacity to handle more reports and to process them with better data tools.

Why the FRC is building capacity now

Kenya has been under pressure to tighten its anti-money laundering regime. In February 2024 the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), the global standard setter, placed Kenya on its list of jurisdictions under increased monitoring, commonly called the “grey list”. Countries on that list agree an action plan and report progress until FATF is satisfied that gaps are closed. Being grey-listed can raise the cost and slow the speed of cross-border payments, because foreign banks apply more checks to transactions linked to the country.

Since then Kenya has amended its anti-money laundering laws to bring more sectors into the reporting net and to strengthen supervision. More reporting institutions and more supervision mean more reports landing at the FRC. Compliance and Regulation officers help reporting institutions meet their obligations, while Operational Analysis officers turn raw reports into intelligence. The Data Modelling and Analysis post points to a push to use analytics on large volumes of transaction data rather than reviewing reports one at a time.

We have not seen an official FRC statement linking this specific advert to the FATF action plan, so treat that as context rather than the Centre’s stated reason.

What it means for banks, Saccos and businesses

For reporting institutions, a bigger compliance team at the FRC usually means more outreach, more guidance and closer follow-up on late or poor-quality reports. Compliance officers at banks, Saccos, forex bureaus, insurers and property firms should expect the Centre to be more active. If your business falls under POCAMLA, check that your suspicious transaction and cash reporting processes are up to date.

For ordinary customers, the visible effect is the “know your customer” questions banks and mobile money providers ask: proof of the source of funds for large deposits, updated ID details and questions about unusual transfers. These checks come from the same legal framework the FRC enforces.

Key facts from the advert

  • Employer: Financial Reporting Centre, Nairobi.
  • Posts: 32 across references FRC/26/1 to FRC/26/21, from Director (grade 2) to Officer II (grade 8).
  • Deadline: Monday, 16 November 2026, 5:00pm EAT.
  • How: online only at www.frc.go.ke. Hard copies are not accepted.
  • Chapter Six clearances for successful candidates: DCI certificate of good conduct, KRA tax compliance certificate, EACC clearance, HELB clearance and CRB clearance.
  • No fees: the Centre states it charges nothing at any stage. Canvassing leads to disqualification.

Applicants should start on the clearances early, because they take time. Our guides on getting a certificate of good conduct explains the process.

How to apply

The full role-by-role table, the requirements for each grade and the step-by-step portal process are on JobInKenya: FRC Recruitment 2026: 32 Vacancies, How to Apply and Deadline. Always confirm the job description for your reference number on the FRC website before you apply, and ignore anyone offering to “push” your application for money.
